You nailed the origin of my SB name. Blue Highways is one of my favorites. I've read it a few times since the first time about 25 years ago or so. W Least Heat Moon has a couple other good titles out too : )
PS A little trivia, Blue Highways has never been out of print since it came out in 1982, not too shabby
