I like to knit scarves and simple things like hats and armwarmers.
I experiment with making lotions and lip balms. I'm a big believer in functional crafts. I'm trying to learn to make some of the basic things that most people just go buy at Wal Mart.
I make jewelry for fun and sometimes for money. I love to use beads and hemp. I like big chunky beads such as wood, tagua nuts, howlite skulls, and bone beads. I got my crafty start making friendship bracelets and I'm always game to try a new technique or pattern of them for a swap.

Usually, whatever I am reading right this second is overwhelming me and causing me to use expletives and superlatives. You are all my favorites!
For fiction, my heart is with the dreams of scifi, fantasy and supernatural fiction. My soul is with politically progressive stuff like Margaret Atwood or Stieg Larssen. And if I choose to exercise my intellect, well, then anything is fair game, isn't it?
Red Mars trilogy (Kim Stanley Robinson) Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood) The Omnivore's Dilemma ( Michael Pollan), Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell (Susanna Clarke), Sandman series (Neil Gaiman) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larssen), The Bonesetter's Daughter (Amy Tan) Once Upon A River (Bonnie Jo Campbell) Johannes Cabal Necromancer (Jonathan Howard) Luminarium (Alex Shakar) Generation X (Douglas Coupland) A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggers) The Book of Daniel (E.L. Doctorow) I am reading this now! It's amazing! Galapagos (Kurt Vonnegut) Felix Castor series (Mike Carey)
Normally, I accept total responsibility for weird things I do under the influence of music I like. But now suddenly the local radio stations are playing "Same Love" about 20 times a day... and it takes me to my happy place, so I don't know, I might be about to lead a love-in revolution or something.
pop/ rock: Of Montreal, the Flaming Lips, Beirut, Eleanor Friedberger (I have a total crush on her and her eighties haircut and gender inspecific vocal style), Neutral Milk Hotel, The Shins, The Decemberists, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, the National, Macklemore, Daft Punk, Janelle Monae
folk-inspired: The Chieftans, the Pogues, Van Morrison,Planxty, ballad-y type stuff like Steeleye Span and Pentangle
classic rock/ gen x: the Kinks, the Boomtown Rats, John Lennon, Janis Joplin
I like movies where people talk a lot. Always a fan of Richard Linklater's talk-driven films. Robert Redford fan. If I see something on the big screen, I almost nearly always love it because it's just easier to suspend disbelief than when I'm at home and I could be doing anything.
Zach and Miri Make a Porno, Whip It, Juno, Nausicaa, Spirited Away, Two Days In Paris, Before Sunset, Waking Life, Little Miss Sunshine, In Brughes, Les Glaneurs et la Glaneuse, Cleo de 5 a 7, A Bout de Souffle, Amelie, Jules et Jim, The Company You Keep, The Kids Are All Right, Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Silver Linings Playbook

Hello Emily!
Just passing by to invite you to join the new swap in the Butterfly Anarchists group! Go ahead and join us!
What are you Reading now? Round 2
Thank you so much for the lively message on my profile :)
Hehe, I hadn't even looked up the cast for Much Ado! But those two getting together would be nice. :)
Spoilers! No, I didn't know it was in wide release yet. Closest to me is SF so either I missed it or it's not here yet. I'll keep looking for it, we get them late sometimes. Thanks for the reminder! :)
Woooohoooo! Thanks a lot for the recommendation! Iรยดm afraid until Iรยดve only heard of the Fantรยดmas movies with Louis de Funes, but the novels look great! (Wondering if my French is that good, though). Itรยดs a bit tricky to get French books in Latvia, but Iรยดll give it a try and if I get them it would be wonderfull to encourage you (and be encouraged) while reading! ^^ Iรยดd love to be your reading buddy. Just: Whatรยดs the first part of the series? Just "Fantรยดmas", right?
You're welcome. I'm so glad you like them:)
You know Montpelier is only about 45 minutes from my house! Next time you are planning a trip there send me a message, maybe we could meet up and have some lunch, talk about swaps!
Oh no, I missed the sign up! Thanks so much for letting me know, I would have absolutely loved to be part of that! Hope you get lots of cool stories :D
OMG! I just went to assign partners for the Today swap and noticed you went to schoolin Vermont! Yay!
WOOOWWWW!!!!!!!! I just got the jellyfish arm warmer mitts you made me and I absolutely ADORE them! They are quite honestly my favourite thing I've ever gotten off swapbot. I'm going to wear them everywhere. I find it hard to believe you haven't done two-colour patterns before, they look so pro. I only just started to learn how to knit so I find this kind of thing unbelievable. This was the most lovely thing to have waiting for me when I came back from holidays; I had to run out and show my roommate as soon as I saw them. To get this as an angel is way more than I could have hoped, you're amazing!!!
