About Me

I am a Special Collections Librarian in the Mid-Atlantic area of the US. My husband & I live in an apartment with our big black cat.

My favorite things include vintage Pyrex, pre-1960s advertising, old postcards, Swatch watches, classic films, and Katy Keene paper dolls.

I love Walt Disney World and try to visit every year. I've also been to Disneyland in California and Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea. My favorite character is Donald Duck and I especially love early-1980s era Epcot Center.

Favorite Music

  • Vintage lounge music
  • Film scores
  • Brit pop (The Divine Comedy, Keane)
  • Indie pop (Midlake, Rufus Wainwright, Gary Jules)
  • They Might Be Giants, Weird Al Yankovic
  • Queen

Favorite Books

  • Anne of Green Gables series - L. M. Montgomery
  • The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
  • Beauty - Robin McKinley
  • Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett
  • The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde
  • Fables graphic novels - Bill Willingham, etc.
  • Anything written by Sarah Vowell, especially the audio versions.

Favorite Movies

  • The Lady Eve
  • Auntie Mame
  • It's A Wonderful Life
  • Monty Python & the Holy Grail
  • A Boy Named Charlie Brown
  • The Royal Tennenbaums
  • UHF
  • Wall-E (and almost anything else Disney/Pixar)

Favorite Television

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • The Muppet Show
  • Mystery Science Theater 3000
  • Jem & the Holograms
  • House
  • The Daily Show

Favorite Crafts

  • Crochet: I'm still relatively new to the craft, but am enjoying it.
  • Cross stitch: My favorite designers include Brooke's Books, Prairie Schooler, Birds of a Feather, Little House Needleworks, and Casey Buonaugurio. I'd love to receive pincusions, needlebooks, or scissor fobs in a swap.

  • Art & Design: I love Art Deco, vintage illustration and advertising art, Mid-Century Modern architecture/Eames furniture, early photography, stained glass, steampunk, argyle patterns, and faux bois (i.e. fake wood patterns). Favorite artists include: Charley Harper, Shag (Josh Agle), Ansel Adams, Anne Taintor, Nut & Bee, Meomi.

  • Geekery: I like Kawaii and other cute Japanese inspired things like amigurumi. Particular Sanrio/San-X favorites include Nyan Nyan Nyanko, Kutusitanyanko, Chococat, DeeryLou, Tweedle Dee Dee (the bear from the '80s), Hello Kitty, the bread from Pankunchi, and the non-character hearts & rainbows they sold back in the mid-'80s. Anything that falls into the "food with a face" category makes me happy. ;) I am also a big fan of Re-Ment, the teeny-tiny boxes of things like tea sets, foods, and animals. I enjoy video games, esp. Animal Crossing & old school Nintendo. Getting something Animal Crossing related in a swap would be great!

  • Kinds of Things: I can't draw or sew well, so I especially like receiving anything incorporating those kinds of crafts. I love letterpress printing and would be happy to receive anything made with that process. Other things I like include magnets, purses/pouches/wallets, necklaces or pendants, pins/brooches, pencils, and notecards or postcards (more on postcards below).

  • Etc.: I've always been a huge fan of Snoopy & Peanuts. Paper dolls, especially Katy Keene. I'm a Turner Classic Movies addict. Disney, especially the theme parks (EPCOT!). Favorite animals include black cats, red pandas, goldfish, the abominable snowman/yeti, and the Nannerpus. Ok, those last two aren't real, but they're still awesome. ;)

  • No smokers, please
  • I am allergic to anything with a strong scent, like incense, candles, sachets, cleaning chemicals, etc.
  • I do not have pierced ears
  • Stickers . . . never know what to do with them
  • Glitter/confetti . . . too messy for me. ;)
  • Socks
  • Windchimes
  • Lotion/Lip balm/Make-up
  • Food products

Postcard Favorites

I am really enjoying all of the postcard swaps here on Swap-Bot, so I thought it might be useful to put up a section for favorite kinds of postcards. I love looking through people's profiles and trying to figure out what kind of card they'd enjoy.

  • Vintage . . . anything!
  • Disney parks or other amusement parks
  • Museums and their collections
  • Libraries or anything literary related
  • Historic sites
  • "Greetings from . . . " cards, especially if they are older
  • Movie or film related, especially classic films
  • Urban views, especially NY
  • Black & White photography
  • Illustration, including old advertising, magazine covers, fashion, children's books etc.
  • Cats and other animals
  • Snoopy
