Description:

This is a swap for members who are just beginning to learn certain skills. All members are welcome to join, but please keep in mind that this may be your partner's first effort - so please be kind when rating and providing feedback. Thx. (";)

For this swap, we will be keeping a 14 day mini journal between January 16, 2012 and February 13, 2012. You get to choose the 14 days you wish to journal (make sure you date each entry).

As a challenge, you can write only one sentence for each day. (You may handwrite, type, letraset, etc. your entries.)

ADDED DEC. 27: You may add whatever else you like (backgrounds, graphics, quotations, etc.) as long as as there is only one sentence per day per page for your own personal entry.

Since this is a small project, we will make the notebook as well. It should be pocket size, no larger than about 4"x6". Please decorate the cover of your journal - it doesn't have to be elaborate, just make it look nice.

The design of your journal is up to you, but I am looking at this one as a possibility. (";)

If you have any questions, please pm me as I don't check my swaps every day. Thx.

HERE is an even easier one!

And HERE are many more possibilities.

Terry I know we are only allowed "1 sentence", but can we add drawings and backgrounds, or can the whole entire book just be the 1 sentence per page?

TerryF 12/27/2011 #

Good question Paige.

You may add whatever else you like as long as as there is only one sentence per day per page for your own personal entry. I should have stated this in the swap description - after all, journals are more than just diaries, aren't they? (";)

This does not mean that we are all of a sudden doing art journals though, so there is no swap requirement to make this into a work of art. Just feel free to do whatever you like with the inside pages and have fun!

I will amend the swap description and let people know. Thx.

So if someone only wants to write one sentence a day and that is all they do, that is okay?

I have pictures on my flickr account of some pages of a one sentence journal I did for another swap. There is a link on my profile page. If this is writing only then I need to join a different swap because I will be doing more than just writing one sentence a day. I will be expecting my partner to be doing the same. Please let me know if I am off-base expecting more than just a sentence so that I will not be disappointed. Thanks for understanding.

Per the swap description above: As a challenge, you can write only one sentence for each day. (You may handwrite, type, letraset, etc. your entries.)

I will be writing 1 (ONE) sentence per day, but will do it in an artisic way. If you are wanting more than one sentence and expect anything other than 1 (one) sentence per page, then you are going to be disappointed as will your partner that you make rate wrong.

Please note that, while everyone is very welcome to participate, this is a Beginner's swap for those of us who have little or no experience making journals. Consequently, these are the only mandatory requirements:

  • making the notebook/journal
  • decorating the cover in some way
  • writing only one sentence per day
  • dating the 14 entries

Anything else is optional and sender's choice, such as:

  • decorating any/all of the inside pages
  • using only one page per day
  • adding images, graphics, illustrations, embellishments, relevant quotes, etc. on the inside

I intend to continue hosting easier swaps for "beginners", but if anyone would like to host more advanced journal swaps, please feel free. If you are not yet an officer, just send me a request.

Having said all of that, I would really encourage our more experienced "journalists" to join these beginner swaps - the rest of us can certainly learn from your work, and be inspired to do more and better ourselves. What a lovely gift! (";)

I did not mean more that one sentence. What I meant was some kind of decoration on the page, Artistic writing or pictures or decorations. I guess it comes from teaching middle school where kids would take this assignment and just write a sentence as fast as they could without any extra effort. I would get 14 pages with just simple sentences on each page - minimal effort from the students. If made me feel like, why bother.

TerryF 12/30/2011 #

I do understand your point, but in this group we are all swappers with excellent ratings who like to do our best. We are not middle school students trying to get away with the least we possibly can. (";)

However, creativity is already being required both in making and decorating our journals, as well as in condensing the sense of our days into single sentences. I think that is plenty for a very first try, which is what this will be for many of us. Anything beyond that is optional and up to the individual.

If you are truly concerned that you will not receive something equivalent to what you send (and isn't this a risk we all take every single time we swap anyway?), then perhaps this particular beginner's swap isn't for you. (";)

I've been burnt severak times recently so I am shy. However, I will stretch myself and trust this group. :-)

TerryF 12/31/2011 #

I think that is great!

I have pmd everyone about changing the send by date from Feb. 20 to Feb. 21 - I did not realize that Feb. 20 is a US holiday. (";)
