Number of swap partners:1
Description:

I recently discovered I could send custom postcards of my cellphone photos using a simple app. Since then I have dispatched pictures of my baby to the grandmas, vacation images to cousins, heck, I have even participated in Postcrossing (I haven't yet gotten word if my international partners received their PCs, too early to tell).

Let's swap some smart phone PCs!

•Image must be a cell phone photo you took yourself. Subject matter is open, as long as it is appropriate for general audiences.

•PC must be generated from a smart phone app.

•I use two apps from the Droid Market, Touchnote and Postagram. They are both free to download, but the PCs themselves cost $1.45 for Touchnote and 99c for Postagram. Iphone and Blackberry users, you are on your own, I know there must be a comparable app available at the Iphone or Blackberry market. Feel free to post any tips in the comments.

•This is the first swap of its kind that I know of, correct me if I am wrong, so I am going to limit it to the USA only. Simply because I haven't yet gotten feedback from my international Postcrossing exchanges yet. When I do, I'll start a new swap.

New Requirement After you send your PC, please forward the confirmation email from the App service to your recipient, so they know you actually sent it.

Swapper Requirements •Rating for at least 5 type 2 or 3 swaps is a 4.8 or higher. -No recent 1s or 3s. •No Newbies. •I will ban questionable swappers. •USA only

I will angel this swap.

Do we have to use an app that costs money to print, or can we make the PCs using our own printer and good 110lb card stock?

I have a Photobucket app on mine that I can send all my pics to and print them at home from there, and I've swapped many of my home-printed PCs before.

twobluecrows 09/25/2011 #

Oops--nevermind, I just reread the description that requires the smartphone app. sorry.

twobluecrows 09/25/2011 #

Sorry for all these comments--but Photobucket does have a postcard app and they are only 19cents each!
I've never ordered one before though, and don't know how long they take to ship to me, so the few weeks in the swap time may not be long enough--it took three weeks to get photos from another site I have once and I ended up going to Wal'Mart the day before the mailing deadline to print, just in case. They arrived the following day!

@twobluecrows Don't apologize, I am thrilled someone is interested. Just to clarify--

1) cellphone pictures 2) generated completely from your Droid or Iphone, using Touchnote, Postagram or a comparable app. Period.

I am only assigning one partner because there is a small expense involved. I am giving a month's lead time so that new users can play around with it before the deadlines. You could literally choose your pic, and your app, and simply wait until the sign-up deadline to send. Plus, its senders choice, there is no profile component at all.

The quality from both Touchnote and Postagram is very nice. You have the fun of taking the picture and then getting a professional-looking result (shiny! fine quality! Color on both sides!). Printing something out on a little desktop bubblejet will not be as pretty. They are even nicer than many store-bought PCs.

This is not a handmade PC swap, nor is it a storebought PC swap, its a new thing. We are pioneering NEW TECHNOLOGY! We are throwing away old categories and conventions, boldly going into strange, gray new territory! We are INNOVATORS! We are EXPLORERS! We are MAKING SWAP BOT HISTORY!

For those with the iPhone, Postagram is available free for download and it only costs 99cents to send a physical PC to someone! Which I think is great considering to buy a PC its about $1 + 29cents for postage! I just downloaded it, but going to try a test PC to myself first. It got great reviews though and was featured by Apple in the Wall Street Journal, so it must be worthy! Excited to test it out!

I will think about this great idea.

Sounds like life will never be the same.

This is amazing. This app is going to totally change my life forever! I'm excited for this swap!

I just wanted to update to everyone that I sent a test postcard to myself and it worked great! :] I placed the order Sunday and received it Thursday of that week. It came just as pictured. I also wanted to make note that they (owners of the app) have 100% guarantee. They offer to resend or refund any damaged or lost postcards, which is definitely a + So I will be joining this swap! Yay! ^_^

I just heard that one of my Postagram postcrossing PCs made it to Germany. It didn't cost any extra (I don't know how they do that!). So the next one I'll host will be international.

Thank you @SheWolf

carmen 10/ 6/2011 #

Although any word if internatinal folks can send international cell phone PCs?

leirali 10/ 6/2011 #

I've sent 5 postcards using Postagram about two weeks ago, and only 2 have them arrived to their destinations so far. I'm a little worried because 2 of them I sent to myself on the same day, and I only received one of them.

carmen 10/ 7/2011 #

@leirali try messaging Postagram. They are really good about answering questions and fixing problems. If we communicate with our partners about when we mailed things (and our partners are patient), I don't forsee any problems. We could forward the confirmation emails to our partner as proof of mailling.

read this and within 1 minute, downloaded postagram. I'm going to Tarpon Springs, FL tomorrow and will make my first post card.
