Description:

I just changed the swap day from the 7th to the 8th because I realized I would be out of town until then.

Is one of your New years Resolutions to get organized?

Is your craft room, or any room for that matter, over run with STUFF?

Have you forgotten the color of the carpet in your bedroom?

Is your life/house/car filled with clutter clutter clutter?

Do your kids/spouse/significant other/cat ask you who's coming over whenever you start picking up?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions this swap is for you!

I usually need motivation when trying to get things done. Especially when it comes to cleaning. It often takes loosing my favorite pair of scissors before I clean up my sewing room.

Inspired by http://www.flylady.net/ I've decided to try to dejunk-declutter my life. So here's the challenge. For 10 days (in a row if possible) I want you to pick 10 items to remove PERMANENTLY from your home/car at the end of the day I want you to email your trading partner and tell them what you got rid of and how it made you feel.

Once your partners are assigned you will have until the end of the deadline to remove 100 things. If you miss a day that's ok, (I'm sure I will miss at least one day LOL) Just keep in touch with your partner.

This is open to ANYONE. You only need to email your partner so that makes it available and inexpensive for everyone.

I just added a flickr group by the same name. We can all upload pics and share with everyone.

So what about hearts?? Hmmmmmm.....suggestions??

I hope this works for me and for you as well.

And please donate what you can, pass it on to someone that can use it. I hate to see good things go to waste, which is why I often have a hard time getting rid of things. Try your local women's shelter, or a grade school or church group. And if it's a bigger item, sell it on craigslist LOL But if it's junk just let it go! If it means something to you, take a picture and then pass it on! (you know that saying "take a picture it lasts longer"? well it also takes up less room!)

Just added: For hearts-everyone must send me fabric LOL just kidding, ok I like the idea of sending pictures with the emails-before and afters, or pics of the stuff you're getting rid of....but not just one pic, I think you probably need to send a bunch. It would be fun to see everyone's pics too-so if anyone has an idea how we could upload our pics to one spot or something let me know :)

A great place to get rid of your stuff, check out: http://www.freecycle.org/ and find your local network.

I LOVE flylady!! But unfortunatly I'm a very organized person. Totally cool swap though!

Shirley 12/29/2007 #

What about e-mailing a last photo of what you removed for hearts? :) Or photos of your spaces (room, car, whatever) before removing your 100 items and after... I'd give a heart for that =)

I love freecycle, I've gotten passed on lots of things through there!

Count me in!

I Love the before, during, and after pics for hearts:)
Our house looks like it exploded with the holidays and multiple Christmases. I really want my kids to be able to clean their room each night and would love to see my dresser and my craft/office really wants to be a guest room/hobby room:)

Wow great idea. I just read Karen Kingston´s book about decluttering your home, and this swap feels made for me! Can´t wait to start!

moowee 01/ 1/2008 #

i want to play along. Count me in!

thefinderofthings 01/ 1/2008 #

I just added an update to the swap for how to earn hearts...I hope this sounds like a good idea for everyone. I totally can't wait to get started, in fact I just lost my favorite pair of shoes which means it's time to clean my room LOL

This is a GREAT idea! I don't think I'll join however because I've been de-cluttering my house for a couple of months now and it's getting harder to find things to get rid of. I probably still have at least 100 things to get rid of but a lot of them are things I'll be selling so it will take awhile to actually get them out of the house.
I started by getting rid of the things that were TRASH and things I just don't use/like anymore. I have lots of small pockets of empty space all around my house now. Next step will be to re-organize what's left. Good luck to all, you CAN do it!

missychrissy 01/ 2/2008 #

Loooove this idea.... I've got tons of stuff to declutter -don't know if I can wait until the 7th though! Think I'll save it all up and start then!

thefinderofthings 01/ 3/2008 #

cindynvd you should still sign up, if you are still getting rid of things, even if you are going to sell them, just mark them for removal and I think it would totally count! In fact I too have a lot of stuff that I will be selling :) I even got my kids in on the act-they are getting rid of 10 things from their bedrooms. Plus it can be anything...10 pieces of junk mail, magazines, mismatched dishes (for example do I really need 6 spatulas?) Anyhow, I would love to have you in the swap :) maybe you can give us some pointers. In fact if anyone has any de-cluttering pointers, feel free to leave a comment here.

My house is pretty uncluttered, or so I think. But I know that there is always something more hat can be removed to clear some space. This swap is be good incentive (and a challenge) to find 100 things I need to pitch, give away or sell.

mediatinker 01/ 4/2008 #

finderofthings, why don't you set up a Flickr group for where we can share photos?

thefinderofthings 01/ 5/2008 #

Thank you mediatinker! I just started a group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/603559@N20/ I will be emailing this link to everyone as soon as the swap starts. Anyone can upload their photos and stories about their attempts at de-junking :)

mediatinker 01/ 5/2008 #

I've already begun with a a much needed virtual decluttering of my computer system.

rintheamazing 01/ 6/2008 #

I'm going to start early, but I'll take pictures for whoever my person is.

mediatinker 01/ 6/2008 #

I'm using the Flickr group to post my pictures and a report of each day's tidying. So my partner, or anyone, can have a look there to see my progress.

It's funny how decluttering builds up into a monumental task, but really doesn't take long to do, once you get started.

smilesandsunshine 01/ 6/2008 #

My biggest thing so far is a car that doesn't work. Made $125. Spent it on the car that works...kinda.

peridoticparadox 01/ 7/2008 #

Do things we send out in swaps count?

vintageartchic 01/ 8/2008 #

OMGoodness! WOW, it's ME you're talking about, I answered yes to all the questions above. I really needed this CLUTTERED MESS (MAYBE NOT SO ANONYMOUS) Group to declutter my guest room. It has become my SWAP-BOT SUPPLY/SWAPS room plus it was already junkie before I joined swap-bot! I needed the help and motivation to clean it once and for all and to get organized bins for my supplies and actually find a place, a wall, a shelf .... something to display all of my swaps! Count me in! :)

beaglemom 01/ 8/2008 #

Wow - one of my new years resolutions in a swap! I would take pictures for hearts - If I could find my camera and figure out how - LOL. Sounds like a great way to get some decluttering done!

thefinderofthings 01/ 8/2008 #

I'm going to wait until the end of the day to assign partners. Another idea my sister helped me come up with is to get a box and label it as your 10 things box. That way as the day goes on you can fill it with different things and by the end of the day all you have to do is empty that box.

moowee 01/ 8/2008 #

I need several partners because I have so much stuff to get rid of.

smilesandsunshine 01/ 8/2008 #

So, I left a picture on the flkr page. I'm sorry. It's gross. Also, I know I need more than 10 days to clean it up. Can we get hearts by spending more than 10 days clearing out our stuff?

missychrissy 01/10/2008 #

My photos are on my flickr pagehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/8823491@N03/?savedsettings=2183590693#photo2183590693 -

Shirley 01/13/2008 #

I hope my partner will please e-mail me their progress, and not just hope I will go to an account and look for something in there. Thank you :)

missychrissy 01/29/2008 #

Yippee!!! finished today, took longer than 10 days but I've got rid of tons of stuff that was cluttering up the place! Hope everyone else is doing OK too.

rintheamazing 02/ 8/2008 #

I got rid of loads of stuff. My pics are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58944168@N00/sets/72157603678660019/

hairycarrot 02/13/2008 #

Wow, I just finished day 7. I'm glad to get things out of my house, but I'm not terribly fast at it. This was such a great idea, and I'm glad I joined.
