Description:

I enjoyed putting this swap together SO MUCH that I couldn't wait to even get mine before starting another one. Judging from the flickr pictures I've seen, the jar's came out awesome - so for those of you who didn't get a chance to participate the first time - join in now!

For this swap, you will fill a medium size mason jar (or similar jar. Use your good judgement on size. The jar used in the picture above was purchased at a dollar store!) to the brim with kawaii goodies. Here are a few ideas to fill up your jars, but they are certainly not limited to:

  • Stickers
  • Ribbons
  • Buttons
  • Deco tape
  • Mini Plushies
  • Key chains & cell phone charms
  • Handmade goodies
  • Scrapbooking punches
  • Erasers
  • Candies
  • Mini memo pads
  • Rubber Stamps
  • Little bento goodies
  • Figurines
  • Necklaces/bracelets

So here are some extra guidelines:

  • You will have 1 partner.
  • What I consider a medium size jar is around 6Ò€?-8Ò€? in height. Like IÒ€ℒve said before, use your good judgment, and like mustxbexfate mentioned below about the nice & clean mayo jar (you could even use a jelly jar.. Thrift stores almost ALWAYS have them for $.24 a piece) Γ’β‚¬β€œ That is a fine size if you want to fill that up (though I would say its even bigger then a recommended medium size). You DO NOT have to go out and buy a special jar for this!! If you have something laying around your house, as long as it is clean & free of smells, it is perfectly fine to use. Your jar should be decorated and nicely presented.
  • The price range for this swap should be no less then $15, but feel free to spoil your partner if you wish!
  • Kawaii that qualifies for this swap should be somewhat related to your partners profile. It can really be anything Kawaii related, but try not to overdo the diddl, Disney, or Sanrio if your partner dislikes them.
  • You CAN add a few handmade items to your jar! Especially if that is what your partner is in to.
  • Please be sure to fill it to the brim with goodies you would love to receive!
  • Items should be new. Packaging can be bulky, so items that are taken new out of a package are fine to stick in the jar!
  • Be Creative!!

Just a little note about FILLERS

again, You can add 1-2 diddl and disney items in your jar, but please DO NOT over-do it, or make it a large part (or even 1/4) of what goes into your jar, unless thats what your partner really wants. I know a lot of people really do not like, or consider Disney and Diddl kawaii, and this IS a kawaii swap ;)! In addition, you can add "kawaii" items that are not typical. This includes items like strawberries, cupcakes, icecream... Just make sure that it is cute and this as well, should not take up too much space. Just as fillers for the jar! Also, your jar shouldn't be filled up with a bunch of pulled memo sheets. Pulled sheets are perfectly fine as fillers, but don't make it the main focus of your jar!!

Pictures from our last swap can be found here: - http://flickr.com/search/?q=kawaii%20whimsy&w=all

Because of the weight factor of this swap, I am going to make this one US only (sorry!). If your jar is quite heavy, be sure to send it in a flat-rate prioty box (tho I've found that they really don't get heavy enough for them)! Also, because I have had some less-then-fabulous swaps recently, I am going to say that this is not a newbie swap. You must have a rating of 5.00, and at least 3 hearts from real swaps to join, please.

I need to go to the dollar store and pick up a few like that one. I love it! It's totally the most perfect kawaii jar ever!

BeccaBecca 01/30/2008 #

Sorry I'm new to the site! Hopefully you'll make another Jar swap, because this is an adorable idea!

PiercedNinjette 01/30/2008 #

I hope you make another swap like this for newbies! I'm not new to swapping, just new to this site. This is sucha great idea! Please post one again!

orangeapeel 01/31/2008 #

oh oh....question! does the jar have to be 6-8 inches on the inside (as in the height of what you can put inside), or can the overall jar be 6-8 inches? And these are shipped in boxes right?

I wanna go see if I can find these jars before I sign up for the swap...but it definitely sounds REALLY exciting!

kawaiibuttons 01/31/2008 #

yay!!! I missed the sign up for the last one, glad you posted this Sadie :)

orangeapeel 01/31/2008 #

I found the jar in the picture! (just in purple XD) yay! I'm joining!!!

Anyone who has sent one before know how much postage is on average?

SadieGunSlinger 01/31/2008 #

PiercedNinjette - maybe I will do a mini jar one that I will let newbies join in :). If you get some hearts before the sign up date, you are more then welcome to join in. There will (hopefully) be many more of these in the futures!

orange - i reccomend around 6-8" in height. width is really up to whatever jar you can find, but it should be substantial. And yes - you want to ship it in a box and pack it really well esp. if its made of glass. Postage for mine last time was I think $5-$7? But I had a lot of other things in the package.

CuppieCake 02/ 1/2008 #

sadie it was $5.60 for everything you sent!

CuppieCake 02/11/2008 #

I already started on my jar :).

JunkySweet 02/11/2008 #

so yeah, its so cool that i finally came up with a cool idea! haha. Im glad everyone loves the jars from the dollar store (and my picture) :P because they are plastic and a very good size! I think we should do a swap like this every month! haha.

dreamrains 02/11/2008 #

I think we should do a mini kawaii whimsy jar!

SadieGunSlinger 02/14/2008 #

Mini jars is a cute idea, but honestly -- sometimes I have a hard enough time as it is fitting some of these things in a regular size jar! lol!

Woo! Signups end tomorrooowwww!!!

blu3 02/14/2008 #

i'm so glad i caught this one cause i really wanted to join the last one. yay i'm soooo excited!!!

dreamrains 02/15/2008 #

true but it'd be like a matchbox or something. Do a mini jam jar or something. Like 3" tall or something... Maybe I'll host it some day haha.

JunkySweet 02/16/2008 #

that would be fun! but i'd still try to find a plastic one, i would be too scared it would break during shipping. those mail people are rough with the mail sometimes!
