I just got my latest Cloth,Paper Scissors issue in the mail the other day and it had an interesting article on prayer flags in it. The flags reminded me of bunting/garland swaps I've been in and hosted before.Only, these would be much easier as we would only be making one (1) flag for our partner;not a whole strip of them. I do believe that these flags were not originally Christian;but I don't think that matters as ours definitely will be! (I think the ones in CPS magazine are) So: a piece of fabric (can be one piece or patches or strips sewn together;like a quilt top) about 5" by 11". The top will be folded over about 3" and sewn down to make a sleeve for the clothes line or rope to go through. decorate the flag with uplifting, encouraging things,(Think Eph 4:29).Try to include words on it somewhere such as "Hope","Faith",that sort of thing. Remember that these flags are meant to be hung outdoors where the wind will carry their prayers to God.You may not know specifically what your partner wants prayer for (although you can ask),but what sort of positive prayers would you have for her? Along these same lines,I would make the flags as sturdy as possible.2 layers of fabric with batting of some sort in between and all embellishments sewn or fused or glued on securely! In my prayer group we have begun making our prayers ones of "affirmation" and "confirmation" rather than the typical "desparation". ( "Thank-you, God!" rather than "Please,LORD!") This is not to say that asking God for things is wrong;no,no,no! We have found, though, that an "affirmative" prayer is very empowering and really spites the enemy as we have given him no space to creep in with doubts and fears! So-let us say affirmative prayers over our flags before we send them off! Yes?! If I have left anything out let me know! Lots of time to make these and nonsewists can join up as fusing (ironing) and gluing can be done instead of sewing! |
