Description:

The image above is a scrapbook template or map stretched to postcard size. For this swap, use this template/map and challenge yourself to create one handmade postcard for one partner following this example. Apply cut + paste techniques and make this an ARTFUL creation.

I count 13 items or layers plus the backing so a total of 14 different pieces. For this swap please use at least 10 pieces of paper/materials in your collage. In other words, include all 14 items pictured but some of the elements can be drawn or painted.

Where it says "photos," feel free to use images from magazines, books, etc. - or feel free to use photos. In place of bumpy ribbon or loose string - get creative and use something else.

Other ideas ... you don't need to use a rose in the center - but have some accent. You don't need to use the same patterned paper as pictured - just differing patterns. You also don't have to keep your piece oriented "landscape" you can tip it on it's side and do portrait style.

Sender's choice so you can start now.

If I forgot something, let me know. This is meant to be sent naked but if you know your post office will give you trouble, pop it in an envelope.

Postcard size is somewhere in the 4 x 6 inch to 5 x 7 inch size.

As always, be sure to include your name and the name of the swap so your partner can rate you.

My count of the elements included may be off a bit. I want to keep this swap fun and a little relaxed while at the same time giving enough instruction to bring us all to similar results. Let's have fun with this one!

Here is a larger view of the map/template pictured above

Cut+Paste is an international group focusing on the art of collage: the artful assemblage of different elements to create a whole new artwork. ALL group swaps are predominately paper collage based, with other artistic media welcome (creating a mixed-media piece).

Share your finished piece in the C+P Flickr Group I'd love to see how we each interpret and execute this challenge!

Edit: Shoot for between 10-14 but you may use more elements and/or layers. Here is what I came up with. Go here to my flickr page to view

Innnnteresting. I will have to print out the template and see if I can't accomplish this.

I counted 13 pieces with both background layers - and only counting the rick-rack thingies as one (and not counting the string on the tag as a separate piece). Are you counting the title as a separate item from the circular piece?

OMG I'm not being relaxed am I?

Angie 03/14/2013 #

LOL. I counted the rick rack as two and the title is part of the oval so is one and the string on the tag is separate but maybe the circle near the hole on the tag is separate. See, not easy to count! Hahahahahahaha.

I've applied "mailart collage" to these scrapbooking templates before and they're WAY more fun than the scrapbooking itself. I lead that youth scrapbooking group and it's so hard to step outside of my collage brain when I instruct them. So, this allows those two worlds to COLLIDE!

This sounds interesting, but I think I have an idea...we'll see!

Question: Are we to follow this template EXACTLY, including the words used, etc.? Or....are we just to follow the general shapes?

isabellasnow 03/16/2013 #

I don't mean the words, "photo" or "title", but the word "memories". And...can we switch up the layers?

isabellasnow 03/16/2013 #

OK....I read the instructions more carefully and I think I've got it now! Sorry for the random stream of thoughts posts!

scrappermama 03/16/2013 #

Are there two backgrounds? The one the rickrak is on then the bigger one behind it?

Angie 03/17/2013 #

Hi all. Yes, how to interpret the layers? I gave the numbers 10-14 because of the challenge of getting it exact. So just sort of do the best you can to follow the template, don't use the words photos, title and don't even use the world Memories if you don't want.

Do you know how many of these type of templates I have saved and NEVER done cuz I was way too: a. intimidated; b. confused; c. disorganized; d. all of the above??? Maybe this will kick me out of my box! Now do I click 'join' instead of 'watch'...hmmm... (o;

Angie 03/22/2013 #

LOL marooter. Yeah, just play with a template in the context of your collage/mail art. It's way less intimidating than a scrapbook page.
