Description:

Here's a project to use up those little bits of fabric you've been hoarding! Send one patchwork bordered tea towel to your partner.

There is a bare-bones tutorial here.
You will need:
- 1 flour sack towel (please wash and machine dry, to allow for shrinkage)
- lots of fabric scraps
- thread

  1. Cut your fabric scraps at least 5" wide.
  2. Piece these together along the long sides with a 1/4" seam. (See second photo in tutorial.) You will need a length long enough to go around an entire flour sack towel.
  3. Press seams open -OR- in one direction.
  4. Trim to an even width.
  5. Apply to towel as you would a single-fold quilt binding. Machine stitch the binding down completely, as this will be a piece that gets lots of wear and tear.

This is an novice-intermediate sewing project. Your finished towel should lay reasonably flat, with a binding that is completely attached all the way around, and have no loose threads. If you are unfamiliar with bindings, use your search engine to look for "single fold quilt binding" tutorials.

  • Because this is a scrappy project, fabrics and colors are sender's choice.
  • Send on time.
  • Rate promptly and accurately.
  • Communicate with your partner and the host (me) if there are any problems.
