Me

I've got: a career I love; a long, healthy marriage; a big, happy family; lots of pets (4 cats, 1 black lab, 1 white lab/heeler mix); freedom; many daily laughs; an abundance of crafting resources.
My word and focus for 2018 is "JOY."

I like

  • ocean colors
  • coffee
  • lilacs and tulips
  • interesting typography
  • Craftsman style architecture; Mission style furniture
  • stories about time travel
  • outdoorsy things and nature and anything around water (beaches, rivers, and lakes). I hike and kayak, and one of my bucket list items is to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.

.... and a lot more things, but I'm choosing not to list them all here. I'm pretty much open to anything (with the exception of the things I mention below), and I like to see your personal aesthetic.

I don't have a definite artistic style, but I enjoy dabbling in a lot of things, with all kinds of media. I'm a big fan of Tim Holtz and like using his products to get less vintage-y results (although I do appreciate the vintage style). I love swaps where I learn new ways to use his inks and paints.

I started art journaling this year and am totally loving it.

I'm a newbie to the world of the Silhouette Cameo 3 and the Cricut Explore Air 2 (I share that machine with my daughter-in-law) and am very open to tips and advice! I have a Cricut Easy Press so I can make t-shirts, but I've been somewhat intimidated by the Cameo, and then there's the whole working 6 days a week gig I've got going on, so not much time to learn and practice. Ugh.

Despite my crazy schedule, in 2018, I want to learn to:
1. use the Cameo and the Cricut
2. use my gelli plate
3. hand-carve stamps

I don't collect postcards, so when I join a PC swap, it's usually for what you write on the back. (Excluding hand-crafted or -colored PCs.) I don't have any preferences for what's on the front, as long as it's not on my dislike list (below). You can send your junky cards that no one wants to me. :)

I learned to sew years ago, and have made everything from quilts to cloth diapers to purses to apparel to home decor. I may or may not have a problem with collecting sewing machines and sergers.... I'm a Bernina groupie.

TV: I don't have time to watch much TV, but when I find something I like on Netflix, I tend to binge watch 2-3 episodes at a time until I'm through the whole series. I'm always open to suggestions.
I'm currently watching: Stranger Things (yeah, I'm late to the party)

Please don't send

I would appreciate not receiving anything with the following themes or motifs:

  • Anything satanic or having to do with the occult
  • Wicca, paganism, or anything that worships or idealizes "Mother Earth" or "Goddess."
  • Eastern mysticism; Buddhism; Islam; Shintoism; pantheism.
  • Politicized rainbows
  • Rodents (mice, rats)
  • Passive aggressive communication or gas lighting. I will refuse to respond, because normal adult discourse is not possible with sociopaths and narcissists.

Comment: Diane, this pumpkin card is stunning! Is it a Tim Holtz stamp? I keep looking at the faded color effects, they're perfect! And the background looks like the perfect ground setting for autumn. Thank you so much for your wonderful creation!
Response: Not a TH stamp, just one I probably picked up at Michael's or HL.

Comment: Outstanding work Diane! This was a new challenge for me too. You really found the right mix and got some lovely intensity to your color, I really struggled with that part. Thank you so much for the lovely swap, of course it will go right in my collection!

Comment: Hello, you may have sent it two weeks ago but I just got it today. When you make envies like the one you made sometimes they are non-machinable and have to be handled by people in each office it goes through. It does have a date stamp of September 1 and I can tell it didn't get machined because there is no bar code. Want you to know that I absolutely love the envie. I was really so thrilled when I took it out of the mailbox, very cool image of houses! I also love the tag, you did wonderful work. I have not used mica sprays. I love how you layered colors and the images. Thank you for a wonderful swap! I went to the apple festival and got some apples and I saw the donuts but didn't get one. Everything is a bit scary around here right now because of Hurricane Florence. I tried three gas stations before I was able to get gas and then was limited to 10 gallons. Stopped at the store and there was NO bread on the shelves.
Response: I had a mail art envelope labeled "undeliverable" last week, so I was getting worried about the one I sent to you. I'm glad it got there and you liked it. :) Yes, the NC situation is scary! I have family in your town and I'm emailing them tonight, to make sure they're set for the onslaught of rain.
