Description:

ok, besides quilters out there, I know there are some of you (like me) who are addicted to fabric! I mean the type of person who sits on a HORDE of fabric & goes slightly mental when (& if ever..) decide to cut into their beautiful stash to create something...well then this swap is for you!

Some details, this is a flat rate box swap (the kind from the post office that the weight doesn't matter as long as the box can shut you're good to go...) Size of box is up to you, but I ask you at least send the smaller square sized one ( I believe the USPS has raised the rate to $9.20) but if you're generous enough you can send the $12 one for more rants & raves & hearts galore!

Now, what to fill it with: FABRIC! & I know FQ's (fat quarters) are fine & dandy & all, but I personally am not a quilter (yet) but I do sew quite a bit & sometimes a FQ isn't enough, so I am asking that you send at least "HALF-YARD" cuts of fabric (or more yardage if you are willing to part with it...)Simple as that...nothing else, just fabric. I also ask that you don't get too picky (like asking for pure silk & stuff that you know COSTS TOO MUCH...) try to keep the selections realistic..cottons, cotton/poly blends stuff like that...hopefully nothing too specific like certain designers, or something that has to come from Italy (hope this makes sense...)& for the sender, be nice to your partner, don't send a god awful print that someone passed on to you & you wouldn't even make something out of it for your dog!

Requirements: you must have a rating of 5 (sorry about being picky on this one...) no, "no-sends", a full profile ( & I do mean a FULL one...I will ban anyone who doesn't look like they have enough info to go by on their profile, or seems too fishy, etc...) Sorry no newbies! But if all goes well, might do another one for all! Must have at least 5 recent sends (not just a letter, or e-mail type of swap..) & sorry, this is a US only swap due to the weight of box & restrictions on international shipping of these type of boxes.

Hopefully the only cost should be sending the box. In other words, I am not looking for anyone to go out and purchase more fabric to please their partner, if you have TONS of fabric already, I trust you should have enough to send without having to go to a fabric shop!

e-mail me or leave a message if you have any questions & hope this goes over well! HAPPY SWAPPING & SEWING!

& by the who, if you don't already have on your profile about favorite colors & stuff like that, please put it here, or when partners are assigned, please let them know! & if you are allergic to anything ( like wool...) please let your partner know as well...Thank you! & I AM willing to let international people join in, but it might be VERY expensive for you to send from your end (due to the weight..) & on our end the weight is limited on the flat rate boxes....so if you really, REALLY want in, just leave me a message & we'll see!

I prefer no very light synthetics or obious synthetics but
I'm always up to a fabric challenge! We should have a trade of finished product challange.

i don't sew enough to join, but i just wanted to chime in about the international flat rate boxes. i once sent a flat rate box to Cyprus, weighed about 7 lbs., so it was my cheapest option, and it cost me $37. (and that price is limited to under 20 lbs.) that would be why the flat rate box swaps are limited to the US.

When you are ready for a newbie let me know sounds great. I have lots from great sales and enjoy vintage fabrics a lot. I am trying to learn to make some softies now and I have been quilting for 3 years now. Good luck and I will watch and learn.

I will be putting the fabric I send my partner in one of those storage bags that suck the air out and flattens it so that they will get more then packaging in the box alone.

shopandbid 07/ 3/2008 #

If this is going to turn into a international swap if so I will need to drop. sorry

I would love to join this, but live in the UK. I weighed a yard of cotton poly and it was 125gms, so 4 yards / metres comes to about £6 postage, equivalent to your $12/13. If you do make it international, maybe partners could arrange to send less to each other. Vacuuming the bag is a great idea, (if using flat rate postage) I had some fabric sent to me from the states and the lassie managed to get it all in the bag by doing that. It wouldn't have gone in otherwise.

I think I'll keep this swap USA ( & hope to do an international one some day soon...) If people are willing to do private swaps, then the international ones could get in on it that way ( hope that made sense...) I am willing to do an international private swap....leave me a message & I'll get back to you ASAP!

I have about 20 large tubs of fabrics in my basement that would be great for this - wish you'd take a noob....

THIS is an awesome idea!!! I've got some eye-spy quilts going so smaller pieces are cool for me too. I adore old-fashioned prints-esp 30's feed-sack style and big cheesy retro prints too--I'll take your "awefull" ones!

makestuff 07/25/2008 #

This is a great swap! I have a lot of bolts of nice quilting fabrics, so this will give me the opportunity to share and have some variety in return :) I will stuff my box as well ;)

Oh, I would like only 100% cottons. Flannels are fine, too. Thanks for doing this swap.

boutiquegirl 07/26/2008 #

this sounds like fun! I have TONS of fabric...

I'd like only natural fabrics, please. Any type, but not poly.

junemoon 07/28/2008 #

I'm joining because I understand from the above that this is US ONLY -- I'm very happy to stuff a flat rate box for the US but not to send at overseas rates. I'm a quilter and prefer 100% cotton but sometimes I use poly mix. I don't care if it's big pieces or little ones or a variety. There are no small children in my life right now so I'd prefer not to have prints for little kids.

This is such a great swap! I can't wait for it to start. I won't say how much fabric I have (okay, I'll say it -- about 30 totes, you name it, I have it). I mostly sew apparel, but I do some crafty things too. I have yet to get into quilting, but you never know! My favorite fabric is 100% cotton fabric. I love novelty prints, vintage fabrics -- the more quirky and unusual, the better. Conservative is not my middle name. I also love linen. Any natural fiber will do. If at all possible, I'd like to eliminate flannels unless it is either white or off-white (I know, picky, picky), and am not really a big fan of girly prints. I do love kid prints though. I really don't care for polyester or poly-blends (sorry).

Craftlover10101 07/29/2008 #

I love 100% cotton but also like the poly mix's too. The one's I can't do anything with are the satins or wools. I have no idea how to work with satin and wool here where I live it's eeww yuck lol. It's usually too hot here to even wear a sweater.
See my profile for other options. Thanks Bunches

The Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes are for international use as well as Domestic. It's a flat rate regardless of where you send it as long as you go Priority Mail. One box is like $9.80 and the bigger one is $12.95-ish. So, it can be an International Swap if done this way and it won't cost any additional postage.

momilani510 08/ 1/2008 #

but if you send international I believe they limit the weight, so there is a difference...

Please have a second one! Most of my fabric stash is in storage right now but I should be able to get it out soon. :D
