QnT Christmas print HST’S REVISED

9-08-14 thru 10-08-14

1 partner 15 different 4 1/2” HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE blocks to your partner

I want to make a Christmas table runner using Half Square Triangles and wondered if anyone would be interested in swapping some?

Using one plain red or one plain green or one plain white 5” square and one 5” square of Christmas print fabric put the right sides together (the pretty sides) draw a diagonal line from one upper corner to the opposite side lower corner. Sew ¼ inch on either side of drawn line and when finished cut on the drawn line. Press each half square triangle block neatly then trim (square it up) to 4 1/2”. Do this 15 times and send 15 blocks to your partner and keep the 15 matching blocks for yourself.

I learned a long time ago that it is always good to start with a little bit bigger cut of fabric than you want your blocks to end up so that you can trim (square it up) after sewing. That is why we are starting with a 5” square of fabric.

Note: You may use any one Christmas print three times, once with a red side, once with a green side and once with a white side but do not send your partner two blocks exactly alike. I think it will be nice to get a variety of blocks rather than too many alike.

Questions or concerns are welcome so please post below or PM me.

If we have enough interest we will do this swap a total of 3 times before December so we will have time to finish our projects before Christmas. We will swap again in October and November as well.

Enjoy and Happy Swapping!

I picked up some very nice Christmas prints ON Sale! I'm excited about this swap! You'll have to share the pattern!

I will make up some of the blocks and put a picture on this swap page. I was thinking I would have fun designing a table runner once I got all the blocks from the swap.

Just out of curiosity, is there a pattern use for so many 4" blocks rather than 4 1/2" ones--for instance nine 4 1/2" blocks will make a 12 1/2" quilt block, of which I do many. What sort of patterns and items use 4"?

Yikes, wondering if it is too late to correct that....I would like to make it 4 1/2 " blocks NOT 4"....must have been thinking of something else....if no one has started making these already, YES @twobluecrows is correct 4 1/2" blocks is the correct size. Please forgive me and I'll go and change that right now!!!!!!

Oh how I need to read the swaps better before I go off sewing!! I have 3 x 15 of red, green & white. So if someone is intetested in swapping some extras or has a color preference let me know. My first partner will receive 15 white HST, next will be green and then red. I will have 2 sets of 15 each of the colors to swap.

There are 3 sessions of this swap....I did the same thing....three sets. One set for each partner with white on one half, one with green and the third with red. I am sending 5 red, 5 green, 5 white to each partner with 3 extra thrown in for good measure. I was able to find enough Christmas prints in my stash so that I didn't have to use the same 5 Christmas prints for all the sets. These go together so quickly I was surprised at how fast I got them done!
