Description:

I've done this with a Facebook group (Pocket Letters Pals) - it's a fun way to write letters to pen-pals for a one-time swap. Decorate all the pockets of a trading card protector and send the whole page folded in a regular #10 envelope. Fill the pockets with anything you like - stickers, washi samples, photos, ATC's, handmade pocket scrapbooking cards, pretty paper; items that represent you and where you live. It's such a great way to contact pen-pals around the world AND you can store them all in a binder. Don't forget your letter pocket! :)

BECAUSE 9 POCKET SHEETS CAN BE HARD TO FIND (or expensive) IN SOME COUNTRIES, OPENING IT UP TO 10 or 6 POCKETS WILL ALLOW US TO LET EVERYONE PARTICIPATE AND KEEP THAT INTERNATIONAL FLAIRE. YAY! The different sizes will not ruin the concept and will make for fun variety.

This swap is sender's choice, but this is the kind of swap where reading your partner's profile is important - you want them to LOVE these great letters. Be sure to send something you would like to receive.

Here is a video explaining Janette Lane's Pocket Letters: Pocket Letters Video

Γ’Λœβ€¦ Newbies welcome! (must have a well filled out profile)

Γ’Λœβ€¦ 4.95 rating or higher

If you haven't logged-on to your Swap-bot for more than one week or do not have a well filled out profile before this swap starts, I will delete you from the swap. If you have any unresolved 1 ratings, I will delete you from this swap. Just taking an extra step to avoid any flakes. I will angel for anyone who needs it.

I'm so addicted to pocket letters! They're so much fun!

Jannified 03/ 9/2015 #

This looks like a lot of fun (: I can already predict that I would be "addicted". Haha!

AliCrafter 03/10/2015 #

So clever! It's fun to see a new twist on a pen pal letter!

ChelseaDagger 03/10/2015 #

I know! Such a great idea. It really is fun - if you're on Facebook you should check out the group, it's created by Jenette Lane - the girl who invented these. Pocket Letter Pals. :)

This looks like an interesting swap! I'd like to know if an A4 sized sheet protector is ok for this swap? It has 9 pockets but each pocket is about the size of a name card/ ATC, and not trading card size.

devilspigeonhole 03/10/2015 #

Good question, @shellyc !

Also - even though #10 is a standard size in the US the closest we have to that in Europe (and in many other countries) is DL - would a DL envelope be okay for sending too? :)

ChelseaDagger 03/10/2015 #

Yes and yes. :) Both sound like they will be prefect. As long as everything is pretty much the same, I'm sure we'll all be happy. Can't really go wrong with happy mail. Really excited to do this with everyone here. :)

shellyc 03/10/2015 #

Thank you for confirming! Oh yes, I'll be using DL sized envie too :D

devilspigeonhole 03/10/2015 #

Thanks for your answers, @ChelseaDagger

Will be signing up closer to the date. :)

Jannified 03/11/2015 #

I have been looking out for a 9 pocket sized plastic sheet but unfortunately there is NONE! The ones that I found are oh-so-very-overpriced here! I managed to find a 10 pocket A4 sheet. please let me know that this is possible too :/

ChelseaDagger 03/11/2015 #

I think that should be ok ... please keep looking for the 9 pocket sheets, though. The 10 pocket sheets will change the concept. ATC and pocket scrapbooking fans tend to do these and the 9 pockets are perfect as they are 3x4.

tlemon4 03/11/2015 #

I found my 9 pocket sheets at Walmart in the office supply section I was surprised , I just thought I'd share that :):)

Jannified 03/12/2015 #

Thank you @ChelseaDagger Unfortunately I really cannot find any here, I may have to drop out of the swap... sadly :/ So hard to find them in Singapore, I may have to order online and it could take a while.

ChelseaDagger 03/13/2015 #

No, don't drop out! @Jannified I know it'll be beautiful. :)

They are so cheap here, we should do a private swap and I'll send you some for the future.

ChelseaDagger 03/13/2015 #

Anyone who can't find nine pocket sheets can use 10 or six or whatever they find. That way we can get as many international people as possible and therefore making it awesome!

fairylover 03/14/2015 #

It looks like a nice swap but it doesn't explain if we have to write a letter, I'm new with this nd I'm not sure I understood about this...

ChelseaDagger 03/14/2015 #

Oh, sorry about that @fairylover Yes, a letter please - I think it will be nice to keep it the same way Janette Lane intended them to be. There is a link to a short video that gives you some examples of what to put in your pocket letter.

fairylover 03/14/2015 #

Ok, it looks more interesting like this. Unfortunately I don't have those pocket sheets and I'm not sure I can find them in France...

ScrapHappyGabi 03/16/2015 #

The pocket sheets can be found at any comic book store as well as department store - they are standard trading card sized pocket sheets- you dont have to go somewhere like a craft shop to find them! If anyone in Europe needs them - let me know I am happy to do a swap for something from your county :)

fairylover 03/16/2015 #

Thanks a lot for the help. There's no comic book store around here but I found some on the web. At the moment I ordered a few to give it a try and see if I like. Is there any requirements about the lenght of the letter?

ChelseaDagger 03/16/2015 #

I got mine at The Dollar Tree - 8 for $1

Dasha 03/18/2015 #

@ChelseaDagger I hope there will be another swap next month, I have just to much stuff to send this month and so little time. But next time, i will be in, i promise. :)

secretterrabite 03/19/2015 #

In the UK the pockets are on eBay, 10 for £2.05 including postage. Search on "trading card storage sleeve" - I think most countries have eBay... give it a try.

owlsinathens 03/19/2015 #

In Austria I don't know how to get them... if I'd ship them in from US I would pay double the Price for shipping -.- They don't know anything about it in the Comic store either sigh

Elliepatterson 03/19/2015 #

Amazon.com sells them too:-)

Dasha 03/19/2015 #

@owlsinathens try office supply store or stationery one. They have those even in Czech in my small hometown! They sell them by piece and for 1Γ’β€šΒ¬ you can get 5.

cutesygirlynai 03/20/2015 #

everyone look on ebay! i looked on amazon and found them really expensive. i got the same ones @secretterrabite mentioned - pack of 10 for only £2. host - how long is the actual letter we write? is it just 1 page folded into one of the pockets, or is it a letter split into pages in every pocket?

SandyLane 03/20/2015 #

I bought 100 for £14.99 - look online. I've given some to my friend. I've got some ATC cards of my own I want to store. I think I'll be sending some in surprise swaps etc in the future.

Chelsea Dagger - can you confirm whether newbies can join or not please? I'm a newbie but can't join in because of the minimum requirements :(

ChelseaDagger 03/20/2015 #

So sorry! Fixed it. :)

freyja3120 03/21/2015 #

@cutesygirlynai it is one letter tucked into one of the pockets :-)

owlsinathens 03/23/2015 #

Found some with 10 pockets yay :D Thanks for all the suggestions!

Jannified 03/24/2015 #

Thank you @secretterrabite I just got a pack of 10 from eBay too. That is like Twelve Singapore Dollars! I will check out some comic shops if I happen to pass. Looking forward for a FUUUUN swap with everyone :D

grandmaroro 03/27/2015 #
