About Me

I feel compelled to add this: While I certainly appreciate anything that is sent to me, I find that I am getting an overabundance of little bits and pieces of enclosures, some useful but mostly sent on. You don't need to send these little bits to ensure you a heart! All I ask is that is the swap is nicely put together and contains a little note or a profile based picture or something like that - something that makes it personal for me, and that'll land you a nice red heart!!

I am a 58 year old-desperate-to-be-a-grandma! It's taking toooooo long!! I have three daughters, one married, so there's hope.Oh My Goodness! Finally, at last! My daughter just told me I am going to be a Grandma next January!! Yahoo!

My days are rather quiet, as I am a home-body but love it.

Art and creating are my passions, making invitations, announcements, etc., journaling, writing, sewing, all paper arts and paper crafts. All sorts of crafty stuff. It gets ridiculous, When the last child left for college, I finally got a room devoted to my flights of fancy. Yay!!

But I also love the literary world, reading, writing, journaling, editing...

HUGE supporter of the written word and snail mail. What would I do without USPS - and, while I am an ardent participator in the digital world, I so much prefer the printed matter contained in crisp envelopes with entrancing stamps (argh on postmarks without stamps, and the ubiquitous flag stamp - not to imply I'm unpatriotic, but given the choice, I have to go with something colorful and fun.) I learned about LWA from another swapper and am proud to say I, too, am now a card-carrying member!

I'm a Pisces, bask in teal and purple, love my fountain pens, roaming endlessly on Pinterest, and organizing all my fun "shtuff." Always looking to learn new art skills. LOVE that I don't have to cook for a family anymore. It takes too much time, and food is so annoying!

Favorite Books

Favorite books include To Kill a Mockingbird; The Secret Life of Bees, Ethan Fromm, loads of Nonfiction - World War I and World War II era, historical fiction. Hard to really pinpoint favorites 'cause I'm all over the place! No mysteries or romances.

Favorite Movies

Big Fish is my favorite, Steel Magnolias, Friendship's Field, Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Mama Mia, Wallace and Grommit, Agnes Brown, Hector and the Pursuit of Happiness, and many more.

TV - I love Madam Secretary, Code Black. I watch programs on NetFlix, the only problem there is that once you watch the episodes they have for a particular series that's it and you have to wait FOREVER for a new season to come out! Love Call the Midwife, Foyle's War. Like TED talks, and my guilty pleasure - America's Got Talent and Chrislie Knows Best. I like the Crime dramas and British Tele.

Yays and Boos

YAYS: the ocean, rain, anything art, waltz music, indi music, children's picture books (good literature -my favorite author/illustrator is Arnold Lobel), tulips, daffodils, apple blossoms, mexican cuisine, hershey kisses, white cake with ridiculously sweet buttercream frosting, baking bread, all kinda cats big and small, mousies, tigers, camels, squirrels, peacocks, windmills (like Holland's), history, reading, beautiful ranges of colors in my inks, paints, chalks, glitters, etc., thrift stores and flea markets, used bookstores, live performances on stage or in concert, psychological thrillers, metal embellishments like charms, cleverness....

BOOS: California summer weather, chocolate cake, rock 'n roll, rap, harsh music, cooking, disaster or shoot'em up movies; I detest grocery shopping , board games, snakes, girly motifs and overboard pinkie, anime, unreliable people, injustice, cartoonish, crude things, dogs, kawaii, hello kitty,"modern art," coffee... But really anything is fine, just in moderation.

I've pretty well covered likes and dislikes, but I see other profiles have a bit on what they prefer to receive in swaps. To be quite honest, I would love anything that I have the privilege of receiving. I respect that everyone has their own style and their own ideas of what is "good" or "bad." Surprises make it fun. However, as I am told I need this, here goes:

Unusual Playing card jokers and foreign cards

Matryoshka dolls (illustrations, stickers, etc.)

Product Labels and any sort of logo art (this can be clothing, food, non-food items....)

World War II anything (World War I would be even better!)

neat pens (gel, metallic, fine points...)

embossing powder

Anything pertaining to Holland motif

Washi Tape (who doesn't love washi?)

Ephemera and embellishments

Peacocks; big Game animals like Tigers, Lions, Elephants, Giraffes; Squirrels, Camels and kitties. ADDED 2-6-18; foxes, frogs and knitting (I'm working on projects for my daughters). I particularly prefer illustrations rather than "real life" type photos.

Color choice doesn't matter, though I am partial to teal and purple

Tea bags (the packaging not for the tea itself)

Mules, but not donkeys

Parodies of American Gothic

Renditions of See no Evil, Speak no Evil, Hear no Evil in illustrative or photo format

Love unusual papers

Patterns or instructions for an usual envelope or craft or card idea

No Hello Kitty stuff or Sponge Bob, Kawaii, please

Cute Mice

Die Cuts - esp seahorse and frame types

No allergies / bad flavors black licorice and watermelon - yuck!

Novelty brads

Surprises / cleverness/ creativity

Amaze me

The icing on the cake: a letter (long or short) included with swap. Now THAT really makes my day!

If you don't receive my swap for whatever reason, PLEASE let me know, and like others, I will resend or otherwise fix the problem.

I've been trying to find new recipes to make since I've been on a kick of eating out lately. Perhaps these recipes will spark a bit of motivation in me to cook more often like before. Thanks so much for everything! ♥

Comment: They both arrived on the same day! Thank you for thinking of my son, he loves surprises like that. I enjoyed your letter and everything you sent. We were just south of the Holy Fire (which meant we didn't have to worry about evacuating but got all of the ash and bad air quality.) My brother and his family and in-laws had to evacuate and we had friends who also we're evacuated come and stay with us a few days. Our community really banded together to support those who needed which i love (and is such a giant middle finger to those who say our town is just a ghetto for the homeless and druggies.) We've recently signed up for "Huey's Heroes" in addition to working with the rabbit rescue, so now we go into our local animal shelter on Wednesday afternoons and read to the dogs and cats. It fulfills my son's homework reading requirement, my daughter gets story time with me, and the animals get some one on one human interaction. It's bittersweet to see those furry faces and have to leave at the end.
Response: Reading to animals is so awesome! I want to do that! Thanks for the heart rating. :)
Comment: thank you. odd that the original arrived 2 days after the resend got to me
Response: You got double the useless facts!

Comment: Love this magpie journal. It is perfect. I love the comments that you made about some of the "junk." This is my first magpie journal swap so I am so happy to see how another person interprets the magpie journal. I also love the color co-ordinated pages. Thanks so much!
Response: I'm so glad you it. Everyone does them differently so it's fun to exchange and see what someone else does. As soon as I finish one I start another so I'm ready for the next swap!
