Description:

This is the first in a 12-month series for 2016 of creating prayer flags for one partner that is based on the book, THE CIRCLE OF LIFE by Davis and Leonard. If you join in for all 12, you would have a full palate of colors and ways to see yourself as a Woman.

Even non-machine-sewers can participate. You can buy pre-cut Fat Quarters at JoAnn’s, or Hobby Lobby for under $2. Any sort of thread and needle will help you sew the seam closed in back. You could even hot glue the seam closed knowing it will come apart in weather, as well as gluing on or sewing any other accessories. Use a permanent marker to write words or draw symbols. Do an online search for examples & let your imagination take over.

Prayer Flags are cut at 6” wide and 12” long. The top is folded over 3” to make a sleeve for a rope the recipient uses to hang the flags on outside. (this is the only sewing you might wish to do) They are meant to disintegrate in the weather as the intentional prayer is answered, so ends of the fabric are not finished and simple is better. Why simple? Beads, fancy threads can be dangerous to birds and other wildlife if swallowed. Remember to be kind to nature.

Your prayer flags can be of any color, any eco-friendly fabric (preferably cotton for its natural threads) and symbolize the sender’s interpretation of each monthly Archetype. Please include a note with the swap name, your ID and any information you might wish to share about your creative process.

According to the book, the DAUGHTER is that phase of life we experience from birth to menstruation. She expresses innocence of life, rapid, surging growth, an insatiable longing for new experiences, new sensations, and new relationships. The Daughter needs food, exercise, adequate sleep, and plenty of play. You will know her whenever you are called to those girlhood activities of playing games. It is also a time of deep healing from the time in life we have all had where our innocence was ripped off. The Daughter in you leads by purity of intent, and by urging others to take their own personal power as she has. She is headstrong, outspoken, spontaneous, loves truth, and is often hushed for trying to express those qualities.

Select at least one of the Daughter’s characteristics as a focus to create your prayer flag. For instance, you could find fabric in a pastel color as your background. If what you want to heal in yourself (and your swap partner) is about not getting enough of the right kind of food as a young person, you could add a small folded piece of cloth that would symbolize a doll’s napkin. You could print words on the prayer flag that affirm good and healthy eating. (Again your choice) Anything you want to use as a symbol for healing the Daughter is going to be perfect for you as you create and perfect for your partner to receive.

Usually a simple Prayer Flag can fit in a #10 envelope and go out with a Forever stamp on it. This swap is International and might take extra money to ship. There is a month between signup and shipping dates. If something comes up for you, please contact me and your partner.

If you have any questions about the swap, please email me. There will be 12 Prayer Flags throughout the year with these archetypes.

Such a wonderful swap series. Thank you so much for putting this together.

Remember, these flags look better simple. Most of the ones I received last year are quite faded and starting to shred.

Different swappers wrote single words all the way to full out prayers, spells and magick with markers. A few have LARGE buttons on one corner. One had a few feathers sewn on, and only one remains.

You can add a ribbon through the sleeve but most I got didn't have anything like that.

Your intention is to heal the little Daughter in you, AND the little Daughter in your partner. Most of us share the same story in some way.

Aww I am so outta of my comfort zone with ithis, I can't sew a button on to save my life lol. I really wanna participate in this series for the year. This is a really great idea I just hope my execution of it works 🙌🏻🙌🏻

The one I made only has the seam sewn. I took a marker and wrote my intention. Its pretty primitive and not at all artzie. Right now, the winds outside are furious and blowing the heck out of 2015's flags. I can hardly wait to hang this series of flags on my new arbor.
