Description:

For this swap, you will create four 3x3” Jim Dine inspired Valentine’s. You will keep one for yourself and send one to each of your three partners. Using Cardboard and hot glue make your “boxes”. Follow this link to find out what the Cardboard dimensions are.( except for the GESSO you probably have everything you need to make these around the house. you can find small jars at Walmart for about $4. Recycle reduce reuse!!) Cover your “canvas” with Magazine paper strips so that you don’t see the edges of the cardboard and where it was joined together. Let the magazine dry and then gesso your canvas so that it is white and doesn’t show the magazine any more. Paint a heart on each one using acrylic paint. Be sure to paint the sides and top with lots of fun colors! I have even written a poem on the side of mine in sharpie! This is a very gestural style so perfect hearts are not necessary! make sure your name is on the back of your chunkie valentine. Please pack your canvas heart in something that is supportive so that it does not get crushed in the mail. These are only cardboard but they look great displayed in a grid formation!

now, for the not so happy part. you must have a 4.9 or higher rating, no ones or threes in the past six months. if you look like a flaker i will ban you. we work hard on these wonderful projects and we all want to get ours in the mail. we have 14 days so start early and mail on time. Im super excited to see what everyone is able to do!

What a fun idea!

Any suggestions on the best way to send these so they don't get crushed?

im thinking if we wrap a 2 inch wide piece of cardbourd around the perimeter of the box, then inside of a bubble wrap, it would make it light and sturdy. they are pretty sturdy anyway, but ive never mailed one so i dont know for sure. im still trying to figure that part out.

I know! ive sent all of my art teacher friends one in the inner office mail. (our post office works for the school district.) they did just fine in those large bubble envelopes. they are light enough that they shouldn't cost a lot in postage either!
