Description:

I love paper anything but this swap is about 5 SMALL FLAT PAPER BAGS. No gusset to allow expansion....just plain paper bags. These should be smaller than 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/8 and 5 bags and a little note should fit into an envelope 9 by 6 inches or smaller. We are aiming for using only one postage stamp. In the US, a forever stamp will work. Michael's and Joanns have little packages of bags as small as 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches or 6.3 cm by 10.1cm. Think of these as credit card size or gift card size. Can be all the same or different but variety is fun. I have purchases plain ones, decorated ones, vellum ones. I like to give them to people who provide me with services like hair styling or manicures. I decorate them and place a tiny flat card inside to write on and a tip but we are only trading bags. Very simple. Your choice about whether you add a sticker or a rubber stamped image to the front of some. No thick embellishments, please. We are working on FLAT mail this time around. In the future I may go for something fancier. DO NOT JOIN THIS IF YOU ARE INTOLERANT OF ANY COLORS!!!!! Everyone gets a five for sending 5 bags. ♥s are your decision. Quick turnaround. We want to be happy Bag Ladies [and Gents] Make sure you identify swap and username somewhere. Have fun.

Maybe include an image or link for an example. Because even at the small size you refer to at Michael’s, they’d be too thick and/or lumpy at 5 total bags for only one stamps (at least at my post office). Forever stamps are only allowed up to 1/4” thickness which isn’t very thick at all. It would suck for all of our partners to get dinged with postage due notices.

Your clarification is appreciated, thanks.

Can these be handmade?

Sorry I don't seem to be able to show a photo of an example. Clarification has been asked for but I think I am OK with what I wrote, I have mine ready to go. Sorry is it wasn't explained enough. These are to be FLAT bags. Totally FLAT. There is no extra paper at the bottom to get wide to hold a lot like with a lunch bag. That is called a gusset. It allows for holding a bunch of stuff. The smallest ones should only be able to hold a flat piece of cardstock for saying hi or to and from or something tiny like earrings or a flat piece of wrapped candy. They are usually made from light paper like scrapbook paper. One-ply. They could hold a check or a dollar folded or a gift card but we are not exchanging anything except the flat bags. I do this all the time. A larger bag could hold an A-2 greeting card. It is a way to hand off something flat and keep it clean...an make it fun. If you would send 5 little ones in a legal envelope sized 9 inches by 4 inches, you could place them slightly overlapping all across the envy and not have a place where there is more than 2 papers thick. More questions? Ask away. And, yes, these can be handmade but it would just be folding, overlapping a seam at middle and bottom. Make as flat as possible. Stampin Up© has a die for this. If you think your envelope is too heavy just weigh your envelope. If it gets over an ounce you will have to pay the .55 and the current .15 surcharge. I deliberately picked 5 to keep it light. Hope you will join. I have purchased these bags at Michael's and you can probably buy them at Hobby Lobby or Party Stores for treats.

Here’s a link for one that Walmart sells. Its just an example...it might be too big for this swap

MissLatitude: Checked out your link. Thank you. As most are flat bags, these will definitely work for the swap. The Post Office has a design on their scales. You can ask for a copy. Many people are not aware that there are many shapes of envelopes that can be used inexpensively. I have one 9 by 6 and the bags in your link would fit easily...the printed ones and the plain brown. Place envelope on grid with left hand lower corner point in the marked"L" at the bottom and look to see if top right hand corner falls in grey area. If so, it is a STANDARD size. Send a few flat items and one postage stamp will suffice.
