I've occasionally seen these, but it seems like it's been a while since one has been on here. I found a definition from a swap from 1.5 years ago: "A magic yarn ball is a gift-filled treasure, made for another person. This sweet, simple project comes from the book The Children's Year (Hawthorn Press). Basically, you wrap cool little treasures up in a ball of yarn, with a few beautiful gifties peeking out at the edges, and give it as a gift. As the recipient crafts with the yarn the treasures fall out one by one, and they discover the fun as they knit or crochet." The rules for this swap are pretty simple. 1) No cheap acrylics. I shoot for good wool or LYS quality. Nothing that you have unraveled from an old sweater. New or unused yarn, please. 2) Try to match your partner's profile. For example, I like bulky yarn and my favorite color is purple. You would try to find a good bulky purple yarn 3) Enough yarn for a small project. I normally shoot for a skinny scarf. (One whole skein should work, but if it's small, please do two or three) 4) Put in fun goodies. Nothing too expensive, and nothing that will melt! No one wants to unravel a ball for melted chocolate. Pay attention to your partner's profile. The goodies don't need to expensive or pertaining to knitting/crocheting. I would say at least 5 goodies in the ball. Make it something that you would want to give. If you have a preferance for yarn, a specific allergy, or some special goodies you'd like to receive, mention it. To keep postage cheap, I'm making this US-only. No newbies, and I will review profiles if there are any no-sends or below 5's. Remember to aim for hearts! |
