Description:

Japanese Knot Bag

For this swap we will be making 1 profile based Japanese knot bag for your partner.

Edited to add: The size of the bag is on the smaller side and more of a "hand bag" size rather than a grocery tote. The length of the pattern from the top of the longest handle to the bottom of the bag is ~15" with a finished length of about 14.5" when finished. If you are interested in a swap in which a larger bag is made let me know and I will host one in the future! :)

I found this tutorial that provides clear step-by-step photos & a pattern you can print out for free:

If you plan to take part in this swap make sure to have favorite colors/themes listed on your profile to make it easier for your partner to make a bag that you will love to use.

Feel free to upcycle fabric (so long as it is clean & in good condition), add patches, embellishments, embroidery, fabric paint stamping/stenciling, you name it! Make the bag something you are proud of and that your partner will love.

Swap Details:

  • You will have 1 partner who you will send 1 profile inspired knot bag.
  • Use at least 2 different colored/patterned fabrics. You may also add little patches, dye, block print, rubber stamp, or stencil designs with fabric paint, make it something you are proud of and that your partner will love to use.
  • Communication is key – if you are having issues please let me know. If you need to send late to your partner let them know as soon as possible.
  • I will angel this swap if needed after you have rated your partner a 1.

After your partner receives their bag I highly encourage you to post a photo of it to the I Made This thread in the group forum to show off your work!

If you have any questions regarding this swap please let me know via the Swap-Bot messenger system.

Have fun & get stitchin’!

I’m watching this swap, but wanted to try making one of these for myself, before committing to the swap. Now that I’ve almost finished one, I am surprised by the size. I expected it to be a bigger bag. So I’m wondering if the pattern printed out correctly on my old, funky computer and printer. What is the length of the pattern from the top of the longest strap to the bottom of the bag? Mine is 14”. Is that the right size?

Thank you @Wanda for bringing this to my attention. You size/length seems to be correct based on a quick measurement, however i'm coming up with 15" rather than 14". I will get the pattern taped & properly measured this weekend to double check.
I've edited the swap description to give folks a better idea of the scale of the finished project. Thank you for reaching out!
