About Me

I can't believe its almost February! I will be away from the 7th-9th of Feb. and won't be checking SB during that time. All swaps are accounted for during that time.

One grad school application down, two more to go! What a journey it has been so far!
Swapping is back to usual for the time being.

Hello hello Everyone!

My name is Megan and I live in the lovely & historic Boston area in Massachusetts.
I'm non-binary and my pronouns are they/them/their, thanks!
I have a marvelous girlfriend and an adorable long-haired cat named Radish.

As for the cat she has long hair and it gets EVERYWHERE despite my best efforts. I do my best to keep her out of my crafting supplies and away from swaps, but I can't guarantee a cat hair/dander free swap. If you have a severe cat allergy let me know so we can work something out! :)

I am a full-time Functional Apparel Design Research Fellow at Harvard University and work on projects involving medical & industrial device design and soft robotics.

Want to see some examples of what I do at work?

I am happy to be queer & joyous to be Non-Binary! They are both wonderful ways of being and i'm so happy i'm able to be out and proud even with the world frequently working against us.

Want some background on Singular They and gender neutral pronouns? Grammarly.com has got you covered! :)
I really want to stress how important they/them pronouns are for me and other folks, so I hope this article can serve as a jumping point into opening a dialogue about the importance of pronouns.
Looks like singular they as a pronoun is finally in the dictionary, hooray!

I really want to challenge folks to adopt more inclusive language into their vocabulary. It can be a long & tough process, but it comes as a second nature with some practice.
We can't unlearn everything in a day, but we can make the effort to gain understanding & compassion every moment.

Favorite Crafts

I dabble in a lot of crafts and love to challenge myself with new mediums. As a designer and lifelong crafter I am always looking for something new to try out!

Favorite mediums/methods include:

sewing - embroidery - weaving (back strap weaving in particular) - fiber & needle arts - drawing - watercolor - acrylic painting - clay & ceramics - print making - surface design (dyeing, screen printing, block printing) - quilting - digital art (photo manipulation & illustration mostly) - "modern" style calligraphy

I learned how to sew from my grandma as a child and I haven't stopped since! I sewed a lot of costumes growing up and loved the "clothes you make" project area during my time in 4H.

I graduated with a BS in Apparel Design from the University of Minnesota in 2017.
My main interests are tailoring, androgynous/gender neutral apparel, functional design, technical design, and wearable technology.

I am something of an aspiring quilter. I enjoy making "Modern" style quilts & textile art projects. I just finished my first hand quilted quilt and am prepping my fabric for the next one. I really like big, bold colors and prints for quilts with simple yet visually interesting blocks

I also enjoy tailoring and shirtmaking. I focused on wovens and flat patterning techniques in school and I really love the satisfaction of getting that perfect fit with obsessively aligned details. There are few things more satisfying than perfectly matched plaids, stripes, and patterns.

Now that the burnout of school has worn off somewhat I'm excited to start playing around with knit fabrics and making some biking gear for myself.

I'm also finding myself creeping back into the world of costumemaking. I'm thinking of making a Robin costume (of Batman fame) or Legend of Zelda character next!

Below is a picture from my senior design project from undergrad! My line was inspired by birds and I made every outfit with my own two hands. I even hand dyed the shirt panels! :)

Likes, Dislikes, and Wish List

I love sending out and receiving things here on Swap-Bot and I also believe it shouldn't be super stressful to those swapping with me. Below is a list of items I like/dislike so you can get a good feel of me & my interests.

Please don't send extras unless the swap requires it or is related to my profile likes.

I want less clutter in my life, so thank you for not sending unrelated extras! I rate on the quality and thoughtfulness of the swap, not the extra elements included within. :)

I'm passionate about sustainability, recycling, up cycling, and DIY culture. I prefer quality over quantity in all aspects of my life and do my best to navigate the world in an ethical manner. I'm by no means perfect and every journey is different, but I want my life to have a positive impact on others & the world.

I prefer electronic swaps to be sent via email and not the SB messenger system whenever possible, thank you

I prefer postcards to be sent naked unless specified in the swap guidelines. While I don't mind touristy ones I really love receiving the following:

  • Fine Art & Museum prints (especially Gustav Klimt, Hieronymus Bosch, Francisco Goya, M.C. Esher, Alphonse Mucha, Van Gogh, Yayoi Kusama, and Charlie Harper - especially his birds!)

  • Art Deco, Retro Futurism, Art Nouveau, Mid-Century, Bauhaus

  • Fashion Prints, especially: Alexander McQueen, Paul Poiret, Charles James, Erte (Romain de Tirtoff), Issey Miyake, Yoshi Yamamoto, Dior, Elsa Schiaparelli, Edith Head, Yves Saint Laurent

  • Historical Places & Events from your local area, especially any textiles related history!

  • I am looking for a postcard of the Uffington White Horse (hill figure) in Oxfordshire, England and any postcard(s) dealing with letterboxing - bonus points if its from Dartmoor National Park.

  • I don't mind free postcards or ad postcards so long as they have artistic merit/look cool. I have some cool freebie postcards from breweries & a local restaurant if anyone is interested in swapping them!

  • I also love handmade postcards and am starting to getting into making them as well.

  • Margarete Heymann
  • Lou Scheper-Berkenkamp
  • Piet Mondrian
  • Cherman (Germán Quino Ganoza)

(This section is always a work in progress)

Nudity is totally fine by me be it photography, sculpture, paintings, art related, etc.

I love contemporary pin-up style art, burlesque, whimsical nudes, kink, queer bodies, irreverent humor, profanity, political art/humor, and art transcending the norms. I'm not easy to offend, however I don't enjoy graphic violence against women, gore for the sake of gore, and bigotry.

My favorite colors include:

Purples - Blues - Indigo - Greys - Oranges I typically enjoy bright "happy" colors, rich jewel tones, and neutrals (so basically most colors, I know)

As for themes I love practically anything regarding birds, deer (and other antlered creatures), outer space, plants, mushrooms, geometric shapes, and marine life.

I also really enjoy art deco, art nouveau, retro-futurism, Bauhaus, industrial, minimalist, modern/contemporary, "spooky", and macabre themes. I also enjoy classic and modern horror & sci-fi.

For ATC swaps & profile based ATC's I would really enjoy (but don't feel required/confined) to these particular themes:

  • Legend of Zelda
  • Pokemon
  • Dungeons & Dragons
  • Star Trek!
  • Space themed (planets, stars, galaxy, space ships, etc)
  • Sci-fi, robots, andriods & Retrofuturism
  • Queer stuff! Pride flags, notable figures, queer resistance art - you name it, I want it!
  • Botanical/Plants & Mushrooms
  • Weird stuff, macabre stuff, skulls & oddities
  • Fantasy & mythological creatures
  • Birds, deer, and whales

  • Birds, deer, wildlife
  • Mushrooms, plants
  • Contemporary/modern florals & botanicals
  • Minimalist geometric designs (especially triangles and hexagons)
  • Solids in bright, neutral, or jewel tone colors
  • I absolutely adore natural indigo textiles & dyes
  • Purple, purple, purple - especially plum, royal, and lavender
  • I don't like most Batik or tie dye fabric. Shibori dyeing is okay though!
  • No kiddy/child/baby related prints please

  • For quilting swaps: 100% cotton textiles please

  • "Woodsy"/"Smokey" teas (especially spruce/evergreen teas)

  • I love spicy teas and making my own chai

  • Flavored black & green teas, preferably not "plain"

  • Surprise me, I love trying new things!

Hot Chocolate:

  • I LOVE malty hot chocolates and spicy hot chocolates

  • Please no mint-chocolate or white chocolate flavors, thank you!

I enjoy:

  • Meat jerky
  • Vegan jerky

  • Chocolates - dark or milk, no white (blech!)

  • Whole, un-ground spices (send me a PM first if you want to send those)
  • Whole bean coffee (no instant, pre-ground, or cups/pods)
  • Interesting non-perishable snacks from your country/locality!
  • I am a sparkling/carbonated water fiend! I usually drink at least 1 can/bottle a day!
  • I love gin and gin cocktails so if you have a recipe you like send it along!
  • You can't send them, but I love craft beer, wine, and spirits! So if you know of any fun breweries to visit someday, wines to look for, and cocktail recipes I am all ears!

  • Also, I love trying new recipes! If you have a favorite (without tomatoes) send it along be it printed out, written on a scrap of paper, or on a recipe card (my holder can accommodate cards up to 4x6 inches).

The only food I don't really care for is tomatoes. I don't like them raw or cooked, even in sauces. So no tomato sauces, pizza with red sauce, salads (think caprese salads in this case, I do really enjoy salads without tomatoes!) , hotdishes/casseroles, etc. I'm a weirdo, I know!

If you are my partner in a recipe swap you can still send me dishes with tomatoes (unless the swap is profile specific) and I’ll rate a 5 (and maybe even a heart!). Don’t fear sending recipes with tomatoes to me, I have some sneaky ways I can adapt them or I’ll pass them along! :)

I'm an avid cook and baker, I love trying new things in the kitchen! I've dabbled in everything from bread baking, pastry making, candy making, cheese making, canning, pickling, dehydrating, grilling, and am starting to get a good season on my cast iron pans.

If you have any interesting cultural, seasonal, or regional recipes i'd love to hear more about them and even get the recipe to try at home. If want to talk cooking & baking, i'm your person!

I try to buy local, seasonal, and sustainable foods when I can. Making dishes that highlight local seasonal ingredients are always a treat and i'm lucky to have multiple summer & winter farmer's markets where I can meet new farmers & artisans. I love hearing about your favorite local food products!

I’ve been on a food preservation kick lately and my goal is to preserve a food from each season this year starting with spring (made this goal post “winter”, oops!). I also want to try my hand at mold ripened cheeses after I master a few more fresh soft cheeses.

I am a HUGE nerd and love to play a variety of board games, card games, role playing games, and video games.

I particularly enjoy these following games:

  • Dungeons & Dragons (i'm currently playing a goblin paladin!)
  • Gloomhaven
  • Lords of Waterdeep
  • Dominion
  • Coup
  • Betrayal at House on the Hill (esp. the Baldur's Gate re-skin)
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Hero Realms (Card game)
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch 2019)
  • Stardew Valley (i'm in love with this game!)
  • Overcooked 2 (its so stressful, yet fun)
  • I also love jigsaw puzzles, preferably 1000 piece puzzles. I enjoy doing a lot of fine art prints & puzzles with "eye spy" elements.

Magic the Gathering

I've recently started playing MtG in the Commander/EDH format. I'm still pretty new and figuring things out, but i'm having a lot of fun with it and enjoy dreaming up the most ridiculous decks possible with the help of my ultra nerd partner and friends.

Pokemon! Especially gen 1-4, but i'm working my way into gen 5-8.

I'm an avid Pokemon Go player (PM me for my trainer code!) and i'm currently playing Pokemon Let's Go: Eevee and Pokemon Ultra Sun

Anyone else hype for Sword & Shield!?

My absolute favorite Pokemon are: Arcanine, Lugia, Suicune, Piplup, Emporeon, Lucario, Cubone, Ditto, Vaporeon, Dragonair, Bayleaf, Xatu, Eevee, Barboach, Mareep, Murkrow, Shuckle, Houndour, Stantler, Raikou, Torchic, Blaziken, Mightyena, Breloom, Wailord, Absol, Latias, Rayquaza, Wailmer, Umbreon, Porygon

  • Non-binary & genderqueer related materials

  • I enjoy letterboxing and geocaching - but letterboxing is my favorite!
  • Interesting patches (sew on & iron on)
  • Vinyl stickers related to my likes or that you think are cool

Although I genuinely love swapping and receiving mail, I do have a few things i'm not a fan of personally and I don't have many people who I can pass them along to.

Many things on this list are also things that I don't necessarily dislike, but I just don't have use for or space to store it. I have limited space in my apartment for crafty things, so i'm very deliberate on what I "let it" to my life. Thanks for understanding!

  • Mint-Chocolate and white chocolate flavored foods
  • Coconut and banana flavored foods
  • Scented items
  • No MLM (multi-level marketing/pyramid scheme items or solicitations)
  • Decaffinated tea or coffee
  • Dollar store/bin items
  • Adult coloring books, pages, postcards, etc.
  • Maps of cities, restaurant menus, brochures, etc. (unless it is relevant to the swap)
  • Not a huge fan of Hello Kitty, most "Kawaii" stuff, or generic anime
  • Not a huge fun of "general" Disney products (Mickey Mouse & Crew, Disneyland/World, merch. etc)
  • I don't really care for Harry Potter or J.K Rowling books
  • Please no die cut paper pieces or paper scraps
  • Please no napkins, dollies, place mats, cupcake liners, single use utensils, toothpicks, etc.
  • Lace & ribbon
  • I don't use adhesive foam, "3D" stickers, or dimensional embellishments. Its fine if you send art using them, but I don't need any for my personal stash!
  • Please no pencils, pens, paperclips, erasers, or planner supplies
  • No friendship books/sheets unless its the type of swap I have signed up for
  • Please no cosmetics/make up, nail polish, lotions, or beauty products
  • No jewelry (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, etc.)
  • No child/baby/wedding related
  • NOTHING with "G*psy" in/on it, it is a slur y'all!
  • No religious stuff please. I enjoy learning about interesting religious cultural traditions, mythology, history, and mysticism, but I don't want pamphlets, brochures, tracts, and the like. I'm content with my personal life and beliefs :)
  • I prefer no "holiday" mascot related items (ex. santa & elves, snowmen, "cartoony" easter bunny, etc.)
  • I do however appreciate things with a more general seasonal theme such as mistletoe & holly, wreaths, snow, realistic rabbits, deer, cardinals, flowers & leaves, etc.

Other dislikes?

Patriotic stuff, fascists & nationalists, pro-military/pro-law enforcement/state-sanctioned violence & domestic terrorism (KKK, NRA, ICE, Homeland "Security", ALT-Right, MAGA, MRAs etc.), religious zealotry, cultural appropriation, xenophobia, racism, homophobia, transphobia, TERFs, SWERFS, RADFEMs, bigotry & prejudice of all kinds, you know - the usual stuff.

Here I will keep ratings & ratings explanations that will be updated on a case-by-case basis.

January 23, 2020

I am currently up to date in my archive here on SB (indicating that I have properly rated everyone & I have received swaps).
Please contact me if you believe you are missing a swap or rating from me. I do my best to catch these sorts of things and be proactive, so if something seems awry please feel free to reach out!

I rate swaps when I receive them and will have a notification at the top of my profile if I won't be able to pick up mail for a period of time.

I rate fairly according to the rules laid out on the site, but I understand that life is hectic & unpredictable at times.
If you need to send late or are having issues with a swap please contact me as soon as possible so we can work things out.
I have no problem accommodating folks so long as you work with and communicate with me.

Due to my work schedule I sometimes don't get swaps dropped off before mail has been picked for the day (last pick up is around 4:30 - 5pm in my area).
Therefore, sometimes post marks will be inaccurate by a day or two if I drop a swap off in the "blue box" after work or if the send by date falls on a USA federal holiday or Sunday.
I do my best to send before the first mail pick up & holidays, but I figured I would let folks know.

Mail service is generally very reliable for me where I live & work so let me know if something seems to have gone missing. I'm always happy to make it up to you and resend!

I pledge to angel every swap I host and I do my due diligence on vetting swaps I host to ensure there are no known problem swappers & flakers participating. I take hosting very seriously and am dedicated to making swapping a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

I don't typically log on to my computer in the evenings and rarely on the weekends (Sat/Sun). If I don't respond to a message immediately that is why. I like to keep evenings & the weekends "digital free" whenever possible. Thank you for understanding.

Please contact me about any ratings or swaps you have a question about via the swap-bot messenger system.

Hello, hello - I just received your postcard from London! What a fun adventure it sounds like you had! I would especially love visiting pubs built in the 1500s. I can't even imagine the thrill of being in buildings that old (even if they've been reconstructed). Thank you so much for thinking of me. It was a terrific surprise that arrived on the perfect day :-)

MiRdLHWY43 on Dec 18, 2019:
