As someone who works with her hands on a daily basis, my hands are important to me. [cue lotion commercial π].......No, but seriously, I've always loved hands as art and that's what's inspired this swap. It's similar to a swap I hosted several years ago in another mail art group. We will be creating artsy hands for our partners - 2 hands, one for each partner. Trace your own or use a template to cut 2 hands from a sheet of card stock or old file folder - you can also use bristol or watercolor paper, depending on what mediums you're going to decorate your hands with. There are templates online if you rather not use your own hand. Palmistry charts and coloring sheets make good templates. I'm sharing the template I used for another hand swap HERE (it's a modified palmistry chart). Your hands can have the fingers spread out or close together; include a little bit of wrist or just stop at the edge of the palm. They can even be stylized like the hamsa. Please make your hands adult life sized - or as close as possible. That's roughly 4" x 6". Fully decorate one side of each hand using any mediums you wish - collage, paint, mixed media, drawing - and express your creative flair however you wish. The reverse sides should be minimally decorated (a little color wash or patterned paper, for example) and signed with your name. Do not mount your hands on any sort of background. They are to remain cut out and sent in creative envelopes to your partners. |
