QnT Christmas Snow globe block swap #1

10-30-20 thru 11-16-10

--1 partner

--1 block to each partner

Note: all fabric used in this swap is 100% cotton quilting fabric

These are so simple and so adorable I may never stop making them. This is also a great way to use up some smaller bits of Christmas print fabric. Enjoy! (I know I will!)

Gather fabric:

A: Christmas scenery print or other Christmas themed print

B: Background print (or tone-on-tone single color print)

C: Globe base/stand print

Piece A: Cut (1) 5”X5” piece with Christmas scene centered

Piece B: Cut (6) 2”X2” pieces from background fabric

Piece C: Cut (1) 5”X2” piece from globe base/stand print

PREP:

With a pencil draw a diagonal line on the back (wrong side) of each "B" (background) cut starting at the upper left corner down to the lower right corner. (do this to all 6 cuts of background fabric)

ASSEMBLY:

  1. Pin 4 “B” cuts to Cut “A” (one “B” on each corner of "A" with right sides together)

  2. Stitch on drawn line

  3. Trim off extra fabric leaving a ¼” seam allowance

  4. Press towards center

  5. Pin 2 “B” cuts to Cut “C” (one on each upper corner, right sides together)

  6. Stitch on drawn line

  7. Trim off extra fabric leaving a ¼” seam allowance

  8. Press towards center

  9. Attach Unit “A” to Unit “C” press towards Unit “C”

Be sure to make matching blocks for yourself.

We will continue this swap for as long as there is interest.

Wouldn’t it be cute to have a snow globe mug rug? That is just one idea you can use these blocks for. When you are finished making them for Christmas, you can also make fish tank globes, and winter globes as well. How about wedding globes, or spring globes, who says there has to be snow?

Swap-on!

What is the unfinished size of the block?

perkl8r 11/ 2/2020 #

to be honest @mjhaertling I haven't made one yet so I don't know the exact size when ready to mail....but I could guess at about 6 to 6 and 1/2 inches 5 inches plus 2 inches for stand less 1/4 seam between picture and base = 6 1/2 inches
