Description:

This swap is for one mini art zine inspired by or about any school/schools of philosophy. The zine may use any medium, include a much or as little quotes from texts as desired (including none), may be sent as a color or black & white copy, etc. This is really up for interpretation! Include a page-ish of writing separate from the zine outlining what you made and some basic ideas you were getting at, or just more information about why this particular area of philosophy interests you. Hopefully, we will get a glimpse into each other's thought processes in a creative way!

Here is a basic tutorial on how to make a one-page mini zine. This is some stuff I (hausofimps) do differently, to give you some ideas on how to make the format a bit more workable if this outline is too basic. This stuff isn't required by any stretch, I just thought it could be useful:

  • I use cardstock as the backing instead of plain printer paper. I collage, and regular paper doesn't hold up as well to that much glue. I imagine paint etc would be similar.

  • I don't put anything on the "back" -- I do a running stitch up the spine to prevent the zine from unfolding. This is mostly because I get irritated if my own zine is unfolding!

  • I keep the hard copy in a folder and usually make 2 - 3 color copies and 7 - 8 b&w copies. I don't have a scanner/printer so I just take it to FedEx to use their copiers. If you do this, be prepared to potentially waste a couple copies if you end up wanting to adjust contrast etc for better b&w viewing. I generally send out b&w copies because that's what I grew up making but I'll do color if that's important to the art. I've experimented with copying on different types of paper, which can also yield interesting results (especially if you're already dishing out money for color). I always find random people or places for the extra copies.

  • it's always fun to send a second copy for the other person to pass along! If I receive an extra copy of anything, I put it in a little free library. I put an email address that doesn't use my name or a username that will bring up search results for me anywhere else on the back page, in case someone wants to make anonymous contact, but I am kind of weird.

That should be it! Please send by May 1 & lemme know if you'd like anything about the swap changed!
