Description:

This swap has two stages and is a bit different from most swaps here on Swap-Bot, so please read the details carefully.

I always save my bits and pieces left over from craft projects thinking I'll come up with a great idea for how to use them....and I never get back to them. I would love to see what someone else would do with my left overs. If you feel the same, this swap is for you!

In this swap you will receive some art scraps and bits and/or found object from your partner. Your job is to make something out of the bits you receive and mail your art back to your partner.

How will this work?

You will send your leftovers and scraps and bits to the person who is assigned to send to you. Why? Because you will receive a piece of art made from your own scraps from the person who is assigned to send to you. If the person assigned to you doesn't send back anything after receiving your bits and scraps, you can rate a 1 for not following through with the second half of this swap.

Once people have been assigned their partners, I will retrieve the information and send you the snail mail address of the person assigned to send to you. You will have 1 week to put your bits and scraps into the mail.

After you receive your bits and scraps, make a piece of art. You can make anything with these scraps that you would like. You can use any additional art materials, too. Keep in mind that you want to provide your partner with some inspiration and ideas of something he/she can create with scraps. Take a look at your partner's profile to get an idea of something he/she enjoys making.

When you are done, mail your lovely piece of art to your partner. If possible, take a picture of it or scan it and post the image here before you drop it in the mail. I would love to see all the Trash to Treasure art objects!

If you don't think you will meet the deadline, June 5th, please e-mail your partner letting him/her know how late you may be. Since your partner's bits and scraps may have been hung up in the mail, it is likely some of us may be late. It is because of the unreliability of the mail lately that I have limited this swap to U.S. Only.

You are welcome to join if you live in the U.S. and do not have any no sends in your history. No newbies on this swap. I'm sorry...get your feet wet on regular swaps first.

Sounds intriguing. I'll give it a whirl!

I am concerned about how we will give feedback to the second person we interact with. It's not that I think people will flake, I just want to be able to give my thanks and feeback points both to the person who sends me their scraps and also the person who sends me a completed object. But we can only give feedback to the partner swap-bot assigns to us. So before I sign up, I want to know how this will work.

Jenna, you will be giving feedback to the person who sends you a completed object from your things. It is not possible on Swap-Bot to set up this swap so that you can give feedback to both people. I felt it was more appropriate to rate the person who sends you a completed object than someone who sends you a few bits and scraps. It takes more creativity and initiative to follow through on the second part than it does to do the first part.

Ok, I guess I am confused. . . the way I was reading this was that we would be sending our scraps to the same person that would be making our "art". . . did I get that wrong?

krea100 05/ 4/2007 #

Like Sharon, I asumed that only one partner would be assigned to each person . . . to see how someone uses our scraps in ways we might have not thought of.

AshleyShea 05/ 8/2007 #

Exactly. You have only one partner. I will be e-mailing you shortly with the address of the person you will send your stuff to. That person will make something with your stuff and send it back to you.

You will receive stuff from the person Swap-Bot matches you up with. You will make something from their stuff and send what you make back to them...and that's who will rate you.

After you receive your e-mail from me, please let me know if you are confused about anything and I'll clear things up.

AshleyShea 05/ 8/2007 #

Ok, I've sent e-mails to all of you. You received the address of the person you are sending to. Please have your "trash" in the mail by May 15th.

When you receive "trash" from someone in this swap, you will make some art piece and send your artwork to the person who sent you his/her "trash". That person is the person Swap-bot shows as the person you send to.

Just remember that you send your TRASH to the person whose address I sent to you. You send your TREASURE to the person who Swap-Bot matched you up with...the same person who will send you trash.

I hope I've cleared up any confusion. If not, feel free to ask questions!

AshleyShea 05/ 9/2007 #

Just in case there's still confusion...

Swap-Bot will tell you the name of the person who will be sending their trash to YOU. This is the person you will be making something for once you receive their "trash" and you WILL be sending to them....just not for the first step of this swap.

D'OH! I pressed "sent my items" when I meant I'd sent my raw stuff out. Oops!

AshleyShea 05/19/2007 #

I received my "trash" from Brooke today, and was so inspired that I sat down and made my "treasure." I'll ship my treasure out to Brooke on Monday. I hope you enjoy it!
