THIS IS A TIME AND COST INTENSIVE SWAP. PLEASE DON'T SIGN UP IF YOU AREN'T ABLE TO COMMIT TO THIS PROJECT! When I was in elementary school, our class wanted us to learn more about our family members and where they live by sending out a Flat Stanley that we colored in and mailed; whoever we sent Stanley to brought him wherever they went, took pictures with him, retrieved souvenirs/flyers/business cards/menus/etc. from where they lived, and sent it back to us. My "aunt" Diana made a full scrapbook album of all the places my Flat Stanley went! Every time I see him on TV or social media, I'm reminded of the easier, simpler times. While we can't go back to those times, we can certainly celebrate them, and what a better way to that then by a Flat Stanley swap of our own! For those of you who aren't familiar, Flat Stanley is a children's book series written by author Jeff Brown about a boy named Stanley after he's squashed flat by a bulletin board! He finds out that he can get into rooms by sliding under the door, be flown like a kite, and even more amazingly, he was able to visit his friends in California by mailing himself in an envelope! If you haven't read the story, please check it out- it's a cute read and the source of so many wonderful projects. This swap is taking this project on in a little bit of a different way! For the purpose of this swap, you will create a Flat Stanley for your partner and bring him with you on whatever journeys you choose to take him on (hopefully there will be many!). You can make your Stanley however you see fit, but he MUST be flat! Take and print pictures, get souvenirs and other goodies (think postcards, local menus/business cards, local flyers, flowers/leaves, etc. and other flat items that can fit into a scrapbook or junk journal), and put together a wonderful scrapbook that your partner can enjoy and share with their families for years to come. Make sure to include items that are specific to your city/area (i.e. a menu from a local restaurant instead of a menu for a chain restaurant) and from places you visit. When you've completed your swap, you will mail both the scrapbook and Stanley to your partner. Please be sure to create something that you'd like to receive. When mailing, it might be best to mail in a flat rate priority box or something that's sturdy and won't ruin your scrapbook. The length of time for the swap allows time to create Flat Stanley, travel with him, and work on your scrapbook! The scrapbook should be something you work on little by little and not all at once. THIS SWAP IS TIME AND COST INTENSIVE. Please make sure that you are able to fully commit to this project before signing up for it. While they're a kind and generous gesture, extras are absolutely not necessary and are completely up to the sender to include. Now for the rules!
Let me know if you guys have any questions! I'm so excited for this swap and I hope you guys will be, too!
