I haven't seen any swaps using things made from plasticine clay, known as Sculpey or Fimo. It is a clay that you buy in blocks (of every color, some sparkly, even some glow-in-the-dark) and then bake into solid pieces. I think this is a great medium; my kids and I have made little sculptures, lots of pins, and even a cribbage board once! For this swap, you will make one pin to send to one partner. Get your clay, roll some out, cut a shape (fanciful, animal, abstract), and then add different colors of clay to decorate. Attach the pin finding to the back before you bake, or glue it on afterward. The pins won't weigh much, so even with a padded envelope I thought international postage wouldn't be too much. I'd be very happy to give more instructions for the clay, but I bet there are a lot of people who are familiar with it but just haven't played with it in a while! Please let me know what you think--this is the first swap I've hosted! |
