Description:

Edit ~Someone asked me if it was ok to send a spice blend they make themselves and I decide it was ok if they put it in a container and list the ingredients. I was thinking of sending my spice rubs.1 oz of spice or spice mix placed in a snack size ziploc bag will keep shipping costs down compared to using a jar. Also be sure to list the ingredients for each spice blend so the receiver can be sure they are not allergic to any of the ingredients. ~ Edit

Do you want to try a new spice? Need a recipe using that spice? Then this swap is for you!

This swap is for us to vary our tastes and to try new things using spices that are not an everyday thing like salt and pepper, garlic, onion salt, etc. Let's get more creative and use a spice like curry or turmeric or Chinese 5 Spice.

Send 1 ounce of the spice/spice blend in a snack size ziploc bag with a list of ingredients with at least 1 recipe to your partner. Since the more unusual spices can be a little expensive you will have only 1 partner.

Must have a rating of at least 4.7. No 1's or 3's in the last 2 months. I've been flaked too often. If you feel you were rated unfairly PM me I may reconsider letting you join this swap.

to be clear...is this a brand new spice in an unopened package?

NekeaVordai 04/29/2009 #

I'm thinking it should be or at least something not very old. Spices do lose their strength after a certain amount of time. What do others think about the spice being brand new and unopened? I'm open to suggestions.

there's only 2 of us? ;-)

Can a newbie join? I was a member of another swap site and have excellent reviews there, but never swappped on swap bot before. Just let me know. This sounds like a GREAT idea for a swap and I have tons of recipes to share :)

Nekea, I think they should be new. However, I buy most of my spices at a local bulk store with high turnover, so the spices are fresh, but would come in a plastic bag with twisty tie. Or I could transfer into some other container, but it wouldn't be factory sealed if you know what I mean.

Abby you can join. :) Camelsamba I think a ziploc baggie or other container would be fine make sure it's labeled. :)

Ellysn if we don't get more participants I am going to cancel this swap. Sorry. I will message you if I delete it.

Someone asked me if it was ok to send a spice blend they make themselves and I decide it was ok if they put it in a container and list the ingredients. I was thinking of sending my spice rubs. I think if we use containers like the small round ones that Ziploc or other baggie companies make (4 oz I believe the size is) would be perfect and better than using a baggie itself. Plus the container would be reusable! :) Also be sure to list the ingredients for each spice blend/container so the receiver can be sure they are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Christine

I'm a bit concerned about postal regulations outside the U.S. Should anyone else join can they please post their countries regulations if they're not in the states?

loricritt 05/ 9/2009 #

I would be interested except 4oz is a lot of a spice and international postage goes way up once you get over 3oz (and the packaging will add to the weight). Seems like 1 oz would be more doable.

I've been thinking about this swap and the amount of spice and decided that 1 oz of spice/spice mix would be perfect and using a snack size baggie would be fine also. Thanks for everyone's suggestions : )
