This is swap for small handmade dolls. Here’s the specifics:

  • -Doll must be sewn, crocheted, or knit (no paper, found objects, etc.)
  • -Doll should be a human doll (no animals or objects)
  • -Doll should be between 4” & 12” tall
  • -This is NOT a swap for dotees, so none of them please!
  • -Doll must have some type of clothing – removable or not

Please look over your partner’s profile and try to create a doll that will suit their tastes. You can message them if you’re not sure. There are many great books (with patterns) about dolls and doll-making, most available at your library. There are also a lot of great online patterns. Here’s a few to get you started:

  • Sewn: Amazima Doll
  • Sewn: Ruby Doll
  • Sewn: Silly Girl Doll
  • Crocheted: Amanda Jane Doll
  • Crocheted: Amigurumi Doll (Would have to be made slightly smaller)
  • Crocheted: Baby Doll
  • Knit: Tiny Doll
  • Knit: Topsy Turvy Doll

Be sure to read through the comments below for more information and another pattern link.

Be creative and detailed! You can make accessories for your doll, or maybe ship it in some kind of package that doubles as a ‘house’ or case. This is a USA swap. No newbies, please. Must have completed 2 object swaps (no envelope or email) and have a rating of 4.5 or higher. I will be checking your profile and ratings! Please message me if you have any questions. Thank you!

What makes a doll a dotee, or not a dotee? I thought a dotee was just a fabric doll...

magpie55 05/23/2009 #

A dotee has a tail (quite often beads) no legs, no arms,(as a general rule) and a hanger coming from its head. A dotee is always a doll, but most dolls are not dotees. You can search on flickr for zillions of examples or google it. I hope this helps.

Thanks for clarifying that, magpie55!

for some reason none of the links you listed work?

Mux 05/24/2009 #

Sorry about the trouble with the links, everybody! They should be working now. I couldn't get one to work in the body of the swap information, but I'll try it here: Black Apple Doll

Mux 05/24/2009 #

Okay, it worked! Sweet :)

This looks so fun! Too busy in June, so I can't sign up now, but I sure hope you host another one in the future!

Oh, to bad, I am in Canada. If you do an international one I would love to join in.

Dotee dolls are specific dolls created by Dot a lady in Australia and became a big hit over here, then people started to embellish them more and more and put hair on them etc. If you google dotee doll you will see her website.
