Description:

Whether you are new to zines or a pro, this is a swap to share your unique mini-zine and also send each other your comments. (Keep in mind ratings are only for the finished product, not necessarily for quality or craftsmanship!) This is a great way to start out if you are new to this or help each other with ideas and tips.

In this swap you will create a mini-zine (1 page folded into 8 mini-pages) and send to 5 partners. Can be color or black-and-white, pics or text, whatever you like! Format is also your choice - make it unique to you!! Journal style, mini-articles, photos, recipes, news, opinions, absolutely anything goes!! Newbies are welcome, we all had to start somewhere!! Just no flakers please. I will angel if needed but it shouldn't even be an issue right?? O:)

Here is a template for the mini-zine: http://www.knowledgeup.com/2007/11/05/diy-mini-8-page-pocket-zine/ (or you can use your own format if you like! hand made, printed, copied, whatever!)

I'm still fighting with the cutting part! Grrrr. I may have to wait until the next one-I wouldn't want to disappoint my partner by doing it wrong. Dreamweaver

Don't worry too much about cutting.... just fold it in half (hamburger style) and cut halfway along the center line :)

SanneK 09/ 5/2009 #

I'm going to start on the zine now! I'm looking forward to this swap.

Hollabaloo 09/ 6/2009 #

Watching! This is awesome and I'd love to join, but I don't quite trust myself and I wouldn't want to let you guys down :(

Hollabaloo 09/ 7/2009 #

I know this may seem annoying, but since I'd love to get into making mini-zines (They seems awesome!) but don't want to join this particular swap -see above- is this swap one in a series?

HoldonMagnolia 09/ 8/2009 #

HoldonMagnolia 09/ 8/2009 #

hrmmm.. is anyone else having a hard time following the cut instructions on the 'zine part?? everythign else is golden but i can't figure out how to cut this damn thing right!

Hollabaloo 09/ 8/2009 #

um, does anyone have the template as an image? I'm on a Mac and I can't access it. I can't find a template anywhere on the Net that isn't a pdf, either.

clsampse 09/ 8/2009 #

Hollabaloo, I'm on a Mac and am viewing this perfectly fine. .doc files can be opened with Word or TextEdit. And .pdf files should automatically open in Preview.

I think I'm going to have to sign up for the next one! Thank you though! I'll definitely keep my eye out for another mini-zine swap!

youtube.com has video on making zines. maybe that will help!

Here's a little drawing tutorial:

  1. fold the sheet in half lengthwise

  2. open it flat, and fold the two ends into the center, unfold again

  3. fold it in half, widthwise, and cut from the fold line to the center to make the center slit (see the red line)

  4. fold the sheet in half lengthwise again, and pinch at the end of the slit and push the ends in, to open the cut part out (see green arrows). Fold together to form the booklet.
