Description:

Some very nice quilt blocks made by @imjustaguywhoquilts for one of my public swaps. They are bright and cheery and uniform!

You may have seen this swap come up recently as a new public swap added. I have become addicted to making these string quilt blocks. They are so easy and so much fun to use up all your scraps for!!

This is a large end swap. We are going to be making 5 blocks for 3 partners. So you will be making a total of 15 blocks. Don't feel intimidated...once you make one or two you will be zipping thru them like mad! Just ask @dBowie She found she loves them!!

Here are a few patterns I found online:

Pattern 1

Pattern 2

Pattern 3

The nitty gritty details:

  • Use 100% cotton fabrics only
  • Do not use more then 2 solid color strings in each block...we want variety here!
  • Also do not use more then any pattern fabric more then 2 times in the block...we want a wide variety of color and fun-ness. ;)
  • These are to be "traditional." This means that they are to be truly random, no coordination in colors, fabrics or patterns.
  • Do not use strips that are wider then 3 inches. Make sure to use a variety of wide and narrow strings in each block for the full effect.
  • It is up to the maker as to if you want to use the foundation fabric or paper piecing method. So that means you can get started right away on them.
  • Be sure to iron each string after you sew them into place. A poorly made string block typically has not been ironed. THIS IS REQUIRED!
  • The size of the quilt squares you send to your partner will be 6.5 inches.

Any questions or issues, please pm me and I would be more then happy to answer them to the best I can!! Have fun!!

I've made several String Quilts. They are so easy and a good way to use up the extras. Really looking forward to this swap.
