For all you monsters lovers out there!

For this swap, you'll have two partners for whom you'll make one monster-themed altered matchbox/matchbox shrine each. The matchbox should be one of the smaller, 32-count kind. Feel free to interpret the theme as you choose - movie monsters, mythological monsters, made up monsters, whatever! All monsters are welcome.

Feel free to include little goodies in the matchbox if you wish, but don't feel required to. The monster might eat them, after all. 8)

Newbies welcome with a filled out profile. No 1's or 3's in the last month, please.

Sounds like fun!

I would LOVE my partner forever if they would make me a Bride of Frankenstein box!!!

homeandheart 11/28/2009 #

Cute idea, but What kind of stuff should go inside??

darchildre 11/28/2009 #

@homeandheart -

Whatever you fancy, I suppose. I had not really thought about that.

If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to put it forward. 8)

For inside, maybe a mini monster stuffie? Or things to coordinate color-wise with the box decorations? I've been wondering about this myself :)

CajunLady 11/30/2009 #

I thought it was for a shrine :(

darchildre 12/ 1/2009 #

@CajunLady -

It pretty much is. I've never done an altered matchbox swap before, so I may be using incorrect terminology to describe it. Altered matchbox = matchbox altered to a theme, right? I don't really like using "shrine" unless it's actually religiously themed, I guess.

However, I don't want to stifle creativity and if people want to put stuff in the matchboxes, I figure that's their decision.

Possibly, I should edit the description for clarity's sake.

The way you had it listed makes it a shrine box!! A shrine doesn't necessarily have to be religious in content!! A filled matchbox is usually how I've seen it listed for a filled one!! I like the new description!!

Excellent. I'm glad that I have made things more clear. 8)

Oh...I get it now! I'm sorry, I'm new to making matchboxes so I thought they always came stuffed with stuff :) I love the idea of the shrine though! I have this on my watchlist :)

bizzles 12/ 7/2009 #

A shrine would be where the box is cut so that it opens like "doors" right? Thats how I've seen all the shrines that I have "googled". I guess thats why people were confused?

darchildre 12/ 7/2009 #

@bizzles -

I don't think that's necessarily required. I've seen matchbox shrines that just slide out like a normal matchbox. Though, of course, if that's something you'd like to do, you should feel free.

Sarah90 12/10/2009 #

Does this have to be a 'real' matchbox or does a matchbox template count? Thanks!

darchildre 12/10/2009 #

@Sarah90 -

Matchbox templates are perfectly acceptable.

Sarah90 12/10/2009 #

sweet! just thought I"d check. Cuz I don't know where I'd get 'real' matchboxes!

bizzles 12/16/2009 #

Ok, I prefer not to cut the matchbox into "doors" anyway. I'm making cute stuffies!!! My first attempt was, a disaster. Hopefully my next attempt will work out....

The differenc between an altered matchbox and a matchbox shrine, is that for a matchbox shrine, the cuntents are usually glued down and done in a way that makes it like a little shadowbox of art, and in many cases people make the doors open in a unique way or maybe it even stands?..In an altered matchbox, the outsides are decorated to the theme, and the inside is filled with goodies that match th theme.. Just trying to clarify things :] I kind of like that the description allows us to do it either way. :]

bizzles 12/19/2009 #

aha. That definelty helped!
