Do you know of a site with an example of a YOYO. I would love to join but don't want to unless I know I can make a YOYO. I would hate my partner to be dissappointed.

Hi, I was just looking at the swap and was also curious about what a fabric yoyo was, and I found this helpful site: http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/photos/howtomakeayoyo/index.html

I was wondering...What kinds of things can you make with these when they are done? Or is the "yo yo" its self the finished product? Im trying to udestand these more.. :}

Thank you for your questions, and support swappers! I love the interaction and interest in this swap! They make cute corsages, or can be made to look like flowers and added to quilts, or clothing. I use them when making flower basket quilt blocks as the flowers by adding a button in the center for contrast. You can also connect them together to make a quilt of just yoyo's.

Please note that I added "1/4 inch" as the amount of fabric you would turn under before gathering so that all the YOYO's will be a little more uniform in size...remembering to always start with a 5" circle first. Thank you!

I hope you all are enjoying this series of swaps as much as I am.

Can the extra large Clover yoyo maker be used. (60mm) It starts with a 4.75 circle. I really like,yo yo's and all the fun stuff you can make with them.

Thank you sewaholic for your question. I have never used the Clover yoyo maker so am not familiar with the end result.

I would suggest you ask your partners once they have been assigned if they mind that you will be starting with a circle slightly smaller than the swap instructions state. Some swappers are looking forward to all the yoyo's being very close in size so that they can all be used on one project.

If I get assigned as one of your partners, I will not mind...a slightly smaller yoyo will still work fine on my current projects.

Just thought I'd give you some more info on the yo yo's that I make. The finished size is 2 3/8 inches. That is using the yo yo maker from clover. Would you do me a favor and compare the 2 3/8 inch size to that of yours. If they are too small then I won't be able to play.

Hey sewaholic, I did as you requested and measured one of mine, and you are so RIGHT ON!...using a 5" circle and approximately a 1/4" turn-under before gathering, my yoyo's come out almost exactly 2 3/8"...just like the Clover YoYo maker. Excellent! I guess the difference comes from the size of stiches used and how tightly the gathering is pulled when finished. Thank you for your help with this, and I hope you join the swap!

Yea.... I'm in and going thru my green material.Thanks so much for your time. Checking the size and all. I really wanted to join.

you can find some beautiful examples of yo yo quilts when you google images of "yo yo quilts".

also, i make yo yo's but don't hem them, they are quite lovely as well and are easy to make. they don't fray either. just a thought!
