Description:
  • Edit: Because this is the first International Broke Folks swap, @darbyflats and I decided to make a few changes to encourage more people to sign up. The number of partners has been changed from 5 to 2. Also, newbies are welcome with at LEAST 3 mailed swaps. I will be checking profiles VERY carefully since I'm new myself. I want this to be a flaker FREE swap!

  • Edit: It was brought to my attention the comment section that to send a one ounce envie overseas (at least to Europe), it will cost 98 cents, and will take multiple stamps. That's OK as long as the envie is one ounce or less!

With permission and a great amount of faith from @darbyflats I will be hosting the Broke Folks swaps USA & adding a Broke Folks International Swap. She will be working with me for the first round that I host, so please please please be nice!

PLEASE READ the WHOLE description before joining.

This swap is intended to control postage costs, with people who understand that we can't turn every swap into a package that costs $5 to send (not to mention the content value!)

Choose items that your partner would like based on their profile that fit in an envelope and use only one stamp (44 cents). * The conversion is most likely different for other countries, so the best way for me to describe it is this way. Whatever the standard mailing price/weight is, that's what you need to try to stick with. Anything that is considered "extra" postage means it's too heavy.

GET AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN TO ONE OUNCE!! One ounce = 28.57 grams or .028 kilos

If you receive a package of any kind, using one stamp, you MUST rate a 5. This means that even if you don't receive something off of your Wish List, a 5 is still an appropriate rating.

How creative can you be with a one ounce weight limit?! Will it be postcards, stickers, stamps, notecards, fabric, embellishments, etc.?

The best part about this swap is it gives you lots of goodies to look forward to when your mail person arrives. AND it's inexpensive to send!

  • No unexplained ones or threes in your ratings.

  • You must have a wish list that includes lightweight, flat items.

  • Newbies welcome with filled out profiles. Please go to mine if you need an example.

  • Please ask any questions BEFORE you sign up for the swap.

  • I have the right to ban participants. I will check every profile. If you feel I might ban you, please send me a message so we can talk about it. I HATE banning people, but I will so my participants feel safe!

DUE TO RECENT REQUESTS: Please note that the point of this swap is to get a much as you can into a one-stamp envie. One postcard is not enough. Try to get it as close to one full ounce as you can, without going over and requiring another stamp! Please send me a message if you have any questions.

I was afraid to take the international conversion leap! I can't wait to see what I receive in this swap! :) How exciting.

I'm crossing my fingers and hope that it's one stamp when i send it :)

Since it always costs extra to mail internationally, I am assuming that if we get an international partner we are to send as much as we can for the minimum amount to that country. For instance, for me in the US to send a 1 ounce (or less) business size envelope to England (or most other countries) would cost 98 cents. Can I use multiple stamps to get there?

VallesAvallonis 03/23/2010 #

@joanieponytail57 Yes! Thank you for that clarification. If it's kept 1 ounce or under, then the 98 cents is perfectly fine, and if it takes multiple stamps that works too! The main point is to send it for as little postage as necessary, but since it costs a little more to send it overseas, then that extra is allowed. I'd maybe suggest letting your partner know that as well so they don't think you "broke the rules". :)

I've had a look at prices from the UK just to give an example price to the Brits - a 28.7g letter should cost around 81p within Europe, and £1.35 to the US and Australia. Anywhere else shouldn't be much more. xx

DarbyFlats 03/26/2010 #

@doortotheriver Thanks!!! :)

doortotheriver 03/26/2010 #

No problem :D xx

@doortotheriver - great! Thank you so much for posting that. I'll include it as an example in the next round of BF Int. Swaps!

Hello all - great swap idea - however.... The one ounce thing doesn't work well for swappers in Europe. For example, to send to the USA from France, a letter weighing 20g costs 0.85Euro, but a letter weighing 25g costs 1.70Euros. From France to the UK, 20g = 0.70Euro, 25g = 1.30Euros. I can't comment on postal charges in the rest of Europe, but here in France, anything over 20g makes the price shoot up. Hope this information is useful to you.

VallesAvallonis 03/30/2010 #

@Filpot - yes very useful information. I'll keep it in mind for the next swap and see how we can re-work it.

VallesAvallonis 03/30/2010 #

Alright - partners have been assigned. All users with lower ratings have been contacted and have explained their 1's and 3's to our satisfaction. I will angel if necessary, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to use this lovely communication tool here on SB before giving low ratings, etc.
