Veggie Swap! :) EDITED

Swap categories: Food
Number of people in swap:6
Location:International
Type:Type 3: Package or craft
Last day to signup/drop:May 17, 2010
Date items must be sent by:May 31, 2010
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

Sometimes it is hard for us veggies to find suitable food or snacks without meat or meat flavors. So, if you're vegetarian and want a safe swap, join us. If you love food swaps, join us too! :)

What we will do: We will send a one packet to one (1) partner. The packet shall contain items worth around 5Γ’β€šΒ¬/5 dollars. You are of course free to spend more, but that is the minimum (before postage).

I was thinking a while whether to make it international or not, but so the chance is bigger to get something you'd usually not get in your area.

What to send? Basically, anything that does not contain meat or meat flavors. That can be candies, crisps/chips, instant soups, little snacks, sauces... let your imagination choose. :) If the ingredient list is in any other language than English, please send a small translation so your partner knows what they get. :)

Items are SENDERS choice but please check your partners profile and don't send anything they hate. Please put allergies in the comment sections, likes and dislikes to your profile.

This swap is not strictly vegan, but you're of course free to send also vegan items. :) Please state if your country has any special regulations when it comes to food related items.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please ask/let me know. :)

Newbie friendly swap, IF you have a VERY well filled out profile. Everyone else 4,8 and no recent 1 and 3's, if so, please pm me and let me know why. I WILL check profiles before I assign partners. :)

Have fun everyone!

EDITED: Ok, there is a lot of discussion going on, which is great. :) I honestly did not consider anchovies in orange juice O.o But. what I imagined for this swap:

  • vegetarian friendly products. The product often states clearly if it is vegetarien friendly or not.
  • In my opinion, eggs, milk and cheese (etc) are ok. On choice I did not make this vegan as this would have complicated things. I respect the vegan way of living, but I want to keep this a bit open, as often it is already hard enough to find suitable tings for veggies.

Think chocolate, think candy, think crackers for example. Soups also work (instant)

I hope this is more clear. If not, let me know and we figure it out together.

I'm excited! This is a great swap, it will be nice to meet other swappin' veggies. Would we be considering gelatin as a vegan or vegetarian ingredient?

50DaysOfSummer 05/10/2010 #

thanks for joining, awesome! :) The most important for this swap is that there are no foods containing gelatin made from animals. Other than that I would not set a limit as it's not easy to obtain vegan items everywhere, that's why I chose vegetarian. I hope that is ok for everyone.

Hellotheremary 05/10/2010 #

Yeah! I can't wait to start gathering yummy stuff! :D

Scrappymommy4 05/10/2010 #

YEAH! THANK YOU SO much! my last two swaps I got Jello and gummies! ack! my profile specifically says NOT to give me these items...I felt horrid like it was a crule joke!

I was really pissed the other day when (after buying two containers) I discovered the only type of guacamole my grocery store carries has gelatin in it. Freaking gelatin.

user2637 05/10/2010 #

Gelatin in guacamole!? SO weird.

I'd like to join, but I'm vegan and allergic to artificial colors and flavors, and choose not to eat HFCS, so I'm impossible to shop for, lol. Have fun ya'll. Let me know if you want me to post this to the vegan swappers forum.

Gelatin in guacamole; yep I can believe it! Stupid stuff turns up everywhere as it's used as a thickener..Does anyone know of any customs limitations as far as sending food items from the US overseas?

50DaysOfSummer 05/11/2010 #

The only countries that "worry" me, are Australia and Canada. That is if, you know you have "problems" in your country, please post it here.

samash 05/11/2010 #

I'm told Italy is a tough place to send to too as they have a few restrictions in place

samash 05/11/2010 #

BTW Thanks so much for creating this, I'm so excited and want to go out and buy things but of course I'll have to wait and see what my partner likes/dislikes :)

Scrappymommy4 05/11/2010 #

My worst was drinking my orange juice and then reading it had ANCHOVIES in it! ack, gross! I'm all for omega 3's but even my non-veg friends stopped drinking that stuff. ick!

aughtpui 05/11/2010 #

Geez ! Orange juice + anchovies = yucky ! O.O

aughtpui 05/12/2010 #

i was mopping around at this quaint japanese shop that has a lot of tasty snacks. after reading the labels, i noted that plenty of them have eggs as ingredients.

are eggs allowed ? coz i know of some strict vegetarians who avoid eggs and dairy products like milk.

samash 05/12/2010 #

@aughtpui I think thats vegans but I maybe wrong.

50DaysOfSummer 05/13/2010 #

I'd say eggs are allowed. I agree with @samash no eggs, that's vegan. Also cheese is allowed. I edited the swap. :)

aughtpui 05/13/2010 #

@50DaysOfSummer & @samash ... thanks for clarifying ! ^^
