Description:

Here's another installment in my themed Whimsey Jar Swaps.

For this swap you will have one partner and 4 weeks to fill your jars and send them. The theme is: Somewhere Over The Rainbow, take this theme as you will, but there are a few 'rules' for this swap: ~You must include one Wizard of Oz item (postcard, charm, ATC etc) ~You must include rainbow coloured items in your jar.

Everything else is Sender's Choice. Check out your partner's profile to get ideas of things they could use, but as this is a themed swap, do not mark down your partner if they include things that aren't on your profile.

Jar size: I'll be using a 340g Sun-Pat peanut butter jar (without the peanut butter of course!), anything around this size is fine.

All participants must have a 4.9 or above rating, no unexplained 1's or 3's. Newbies with very well filled out profiles welcome. I will be checking all profiles and deleting those that don't match up.

Any questions, PM me.

Is it possible to have a UK partner if I join this swap as the postage would be too much for me to send outside of the UK?

TheLittlePixieTailor 06/30/2010 #

Unfortunately Swap-Bot assigns partners automatically, I have no way to guarantee you'll get a UK partner. I will be doing more UK Whimsey jar swaps, so check back.

I would like to join this one but it the first I've done like this. Any other suggestions as to what should go in the container? The more information I get the better chance I have of fullfilling someones hearts desire!!!

TheLittlePixieTailor 07/ 7/2010 #

Well, I don't like to influence what people put in their jars too much, but if you're really stuck why not think about taking themes from the Wizard of Oz: I.E The Yellow Brick Road - you could include yellow beads that look like bricks, or an atc of the YBR. The Ruby Slippers - You could include red glitter or glittery items. The Emerald City - Perhaps green gemstones or ribbon?

Looking at your partner's profile is going to be the best place to get inspiration, I think.

I hope this helps??

I've not done a whimsy jar before either, but when I think of them I mostly think embellishments. Buttons, ribbons, tags, lace, stickers?, chipboard items, old cool paper images, stuff like that? A jar of themed inspirational items, like a HUGE matchbox.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, lol. I don't want to send things no one will want. =) BTW, should items like tags/cards be "finished" or for your partner to create their own things with?

TheLittlePixieTailor 07/18/2010 #

@tiggerkitn That sounds good to me :) One of the things I love about Whimsy Jars is that each person interprets them in their own way. I always like to include a "finished" item or two to showcase my crafts, but again I think it's entirely up to you.

Oh I am so excited bout this swap! I've already got my jar decorated and half full, just waiting to get my partner so I can tailor it a bit! :-)

I'd like to join, but a) I've never done a whimsey jar before and would feel inadequate, and b) how on earth do you send a jar in the mail?

tiggerkitn25 07/30/2010 #

@whowillloveme a) I haven't either =) and b) I'd pack mine into a box for shipping.

@whowillloveme Some sturdy plastic jars can be sent as they are, just as long as the address and postage are visible on there. You'd be surprised what you can send in the mail! (such as coconuts)

I have recently sent a coke bottle filled with goodies - including chocolate - to the USA.. It was sent as-is without a box, just the address label covering the opening and the customs form on the back. Arrived safely, quickly and in one piece.

Just in case you've been wondering...

340g jar = 12 oz jar

I looked this up before deciding to join. This will be fun!

id0be1ieve 08/ 6/2010 #

must jars be transparent..? :-)
(I'm also a newbie to whimsy jars!)

TheLittlePixieTailor 08/10/2010 #

@id0be1ieve No they don't have to be transparent, they can be anything you want them to be :)
