Description:

Summer is a great time to take your laptop or a pad and pen and sit somewhere outdoors, watch the world go by and get some writing ideas. For this swap, that's just what you'll do.

Take your writing instrument to a cafe, a park bench, the beach, maybe your own backyard. Give yourself a few minutes to just enjoy where you're at. Then write freely for several minutes about where you are or how you feel or what you see, who's around -- one or some or all of the above.

Pause another little bit and think about what you've written and what kind of scene or story [even a poem if that's what comes to you] this inspires. Write that scene or story or maybe a memory.

Send your partner a copy of all this writing -- the first part and the second part. So the definition of what you're going to write is pretty loose. But send your partner at least a page of writing, and two or three pages would be better. If there are questions, put them in the comments so everyone will know the answer.

For those who are in New Zealand or Australia, I realize it's winter there, so maybe you want to go to an indoor cafe. This is not a swap that means to give anybody a chill. -- PS, sorry the pix is a guy, but of course guys are welcome in this swap, and it's hard to find just the picture I want.

Ha! You apologized to the winter folks. What about us in TX and the triple digit temperatures? :o)

I'm gonna try this one. I may only actually write the first part outside between the heat and the mosquitoes, but it sounds like a writing assignment that I'd both enjoy writing and receiving.

2 partners?

Ditto! Winter here (in Phoenix) would be the ideal time to sit outside. I'll try early morning or evening and avoid the heat!

To my friends from the Southwest -- I consider outside being away from your house, which means you might be in the food court of a mall or in an air conditioned coffee shop, or maybe in your own backyard listening to birds at the break of dawn before the sun is burning you to a crisp.

And, yes, Cratycol, I think a bus will count too. My idea was to have other people around to spark some observation and new ideas.

LOL! Yep, at this time of year we do consider "outside" being at the mall!

Hey, what a good idea! I love writing away from the house. This exercise is bound to stir up some ideas.

Is it okay to photocopy our writing for our partners (since there's two of them) or do we need to rewrite it out?

junemoon 07/25/2010 #

Feel free to photocopy -- or to transcribe what you wrote to a computer and print it out twice -- which is what I will do unless I take my computer to a coffee shop.

Mine were mailed today.

Envelopes are en route to my partners. Enjoy!

I am only rating for this swap now because I just received both of my partner's writings today.
