About Me

I work in marketing at a university hospital system and have a wonderful partner and sweet baby son. We have a big friendly mutt in our household too.

I am an avid reader and writer. I love literary fiction, memoir, fascinating history/social science, and the classics.

I enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, and mountaineering with my family. We love the outdoor opportunities here in the Pacific Northwest!

Maxwell Butte

Favorite Crafts

I'm a paper crafter, and dabble in painting and drawing.

Things I like to make and also like to receive:

*Handmade notecards/postcards

*Mail art

*Naked mail

*ATCs, inchies, twinchies

*Paper flowers

Non-crafts I like to swap:

*Postcards (see section below)

*Books, reading, etc (see section below)

*Paper crafting supplies

*Stationery (not for computer)

*Googly eyes, brads, non-flat stickers

I do a lot of zentangles and love to swap them. I'm not particular about using the official trademarked Zentangle method or patterns. Below are some samples of what I've created!

Mandala zentangle

My favorite color is yellow, closely followed by pink/red. I love yellow and pink together! I also like green and really like multi-colored items.

As far as shades, I tend to prefer bright, vibrant shades and jewel tones. I like pastels - especially yellow and pink. I'm not too excited by earth tones or darker shades.

Postcard preferences

MAPS! - especially unusual maps (like a historical map, a map of a small town, or some sort of themed map).

Typical tourist cards - scenic/city views, cards from a tourist destination/landmark, etc.

I prefer NAKED postcards, with a message and a stamp.

I also enjoy USED vintage postcards - the older the better, with old stamps and interesting old messages.

Favorite Books

I prefer literary fiction, short stories, biography, memoir and well-researched, well-written history and social science. I am interested in book reviews and recommendations. I don't like most genre fiction (like romance, mystery, thriller, etc...) and I don't usually like series fiction.

Favorite novels: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Solace of Leaving Early, A Tale of Two Cities, Midnight's Children, The Once and Future King, Joseph Andrews, Cat's Cradle, A Prayer for Owen Meany, A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Gilead, Ada, Tinkers, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Grapes of Wrath, Sacred Hunger, Waterland, The Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon, Sometimes a Great Notion, All the Light We Cannot See, Americanah, Salvage the Bones, Love Medicine

Favorite short story authors: Anthony Doerr, Alice Munro, Raymond Carver, Carson McCullers, George Saunders, Junot Diaz, Jhumpa Lahiri, Edgar Allan Poe, Lucia Berlin

Poetry: Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Langston Hughes, ee cummings

Things I love

animals, bright colors, nature/the outdoors, stationery, map postcards, notecards, journals, word puzzles and games, logic puzzles, the number 4, Girl Scouts, hiking and camping, books and reading, The Beatles, German beer coasters, papers for card making, extremely fine line pens (005) in all colors, tea, handmade envelopes, naked mail, zentangles, short stories, challenges, biking

Looking for a good theme for a profile-based swap to send me? Some ideas I would enjoy, in no particular order:

*Yellow and pink

*Adventure/mountain/active outdoors

*All things German

I like black and green teas - flavors always welcome! I enjoy flavors like vanilla, chocolate, caramel, any sort of nutty flavors, and I love coconut. Fruit flavors are hit and miss - sometimes great, sometimes not.

I don't care for herbal teas or earl grey.

*Hello Kitty, kawaii, Disney, Diddl, any other trademarked characters

*Vintage (unless it's used postcards), Victorian, ephemera, steampunk, etc...

*Gothic, dark, horror

*dollar store, kitsch, trinkets

Comment: Congratulations on your progress! :) One of the books you read is one I've been seeing a LOT and have considered adding to my list. I'm trying not to auto-add books that are popular, though. Thanks for sharing!
Comment: Sounds like you are making a lot of progress! I'm so happy to hear that. It IS hard to not add books when doing these book swaps. But I guess we'll always be adding, right? :) Thanks for sharing your progress. Here's to another good year!
