About Me

I like Zentangling, for myself, and I like other people's work.

I was looking at some of the "top swaps" and noticed that many of them specified "no home made", well, home made is really what I would most like to receive (I can buy things for myself).

I'm on the far side of middle-aged, married, no kids, but we have a rescue dog (black pitbull - sweet as can be). I work full-time in an office (systems analyst) but I am no longer enthusiastic about it...counting the days, counting the days.

I have a small house on the East Coast of the US not too far from New York City. I like doll making most of all as that incorporates sculpture, painting, design, fabric, embroidery and beading. I used to be able to draw and paint, but I lost the knack from disuse. Zentangling seemed like a way back, but I like it for itself. I think the gems are really pretty.

Likes

  • Jewel tone colors
  • Hand-made/one of a kind
  • Wit and Symbolism
  • Fish-related (includes cephalopods)
  • Insects and Arachnids
  • Ooak Art Dolls
  • Shiny stuff
  • Grungy stuff
  • Beads, ribbons, embellishments
  • Anything interesting or unusual or personal
  • Religious iconography and mythology

Dislikes

  • Violence, cruelty and gore
  • Saccharin or kawaii
  • Passive-aggressive narcissists who can't be bothered to acknowledge they even received the swap for weeks on end because that isn't "fun" for them.

Ambivalences

  • Stickers - most, but not all, are uninteresting
  • Cartoons (Garfield is hideous but Mutts is elegant; love love love Lynda Barry)
  • alt text It just depends on how well it's done
  • Clowns mostly hate, but it could be done well, this one is charming: "Primitive Clown"
  • Muddy colors, again, it all depends on how they're used

Favorite Crafts

I like to do mixed media using jewelry, paper, ceramics - anything that can be altered or repurposed - one man's crap is another man's treasure.

Since I've joined Swap-bot, mail art has become my main creative outlet ~ postcards, ATCs and just starting zines which have challenge of the added elements of time and narrative.

I also do handmade one of a kind paperclay and polymer clay dolls, so fabrics and embellishments (dangly earrings) are always welcome.

Comment: I am blown away! This is a fantastic piece of artwork. She is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing her with me. Also, thanks for the hair tip. I am going to give that a try. She will forever be in my art space. She is a great inspiration and I will cherish her. I will have to give her a name. Any suggestions?
Response: I'm so pleased you like her! The only name that occurs to me probably isn't appropriate as it is the user name of someone here who I don't know - Blue-haired Mary - but feel free to call her what you please. Was it clear how to assemble? There is a red dot on the base that indicates the front.

Comment: What a great water coloured greeting of spring! Thanks so much for the snowdrops. Last week I saw the first ones of the year in a garden. I will put your card on my desk to shorten the waiting of spring.

Comment: Thanks for the fun postcard! Glitter gets a bad rap these days; I still enjoy it in my mailbox. :)
Response: Being bound in glue makes it less objectionable, I hope, but I'm a glitter fan. I don't care if other people find it tacky. I wonder if anyone would join a Glitter Bomb Swap?

Comment: Thanks for not 1 but 2 ATC's I like them both, but I agree the one with the red backgound speaks more. Probably because of the greater contrast in colors. I just love those kind of tangles, I like to draw little gardens and landscapes using tangles and those organic tangles like this one are perfect for that. Thank you for your beautifull swap :)
Response: I think you're right about the contrast. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for working on my "face" P&P! It turned out really cool! I'll try to post it here, but for some reason, mine don't show up right. It's on the January Swap page if you want to take a look there. Thanks again!

Hey there,

I was reading your intro in the Art Guild and saw that you enjoy watercolor. I just saw these watercolor paints on facebook today. I think this is such a cool concept!
