Description:

This is a new member swap and therefore means that all are welcome, both new and old members of the group :-)

I "stole" this idea from a public swap by @Katica I thought it would be a fantastic idea that everyone could join in on, even those of you new to paganism. Everyone should feel comfortable joining this, what YOU have to offer IS valuable.

You will be making decorated mini book of shadows pages for this. Use sturdy card stock like paper and make the pages the size of a regular postcard (approx. 4x6 inches, but there can be slight flexibility) and please only write/decorate on one side in case some people choose to glue the cards into a book. And please sign you swapbot name in one corner of the cards.

You will have three swap partners and you will send two cards to each partner. This means that you will write on/decorate, in total, 6 cards and get 6 cards back yourself. The idea is to repeat this swap several times if it's a success and you will then hopefully wind up with a postcard sizes book of shadows made for you by your fellow swap-bot witches. Pretty cool huh? :-)

This first swap will as I said have 3 partners just to get your collection kick started, and the swaps forllowing that will only have 1 partner so it's not quite such a big job everytime ;-)

What kind of information should go on the cards? If you are newer than new to paganism, please don't let that stop you, we still want what YOU have to offer. You can put meditations, prayers, chants, spells, ritual instructions, lists of uses for herbs or gems, recipes for pagan holiday foods or recipes for things like herbal teas etc, information about myths or important historical pagan cultures or events, instructions for pagan crafts, personal poems relating to paganism....As you can see, there is a wide variety of information you can choose to put on your cards, and you can decorate them in any manner you choose to, so have fun and be creative with this.

I will write this again for good measure: Please put the information on one side of the card only so that people may choose to put their cards in an album or paste them into a book.

I highly encourage everyone to jump in on this swap. If you are new this is a really easy way to gather more information on paganism from people with more experience. If you are experienced it will be a fun collection to have. Just think how cute that little postcard sized Book of Shadows is gonna be.

I will remind you again to please sign you swapbot name in one corner of the cards. Other than that just have lots and lots of fun with this. I hope many will sign up so we can do this swap again many times :-)

Ohhh, and if you have a special wish regarding if your cards should be oriented vertically or horizontally please write that to the partner sending to you as soon as partners are assigned, otherwise it will be senders choice :-)

NB: The picture is of postcard sized BoS pages SylvanaWolfspaw made me when I did this swap in the group European witches.

are these to be mailed naked or sent in an envelope? also, are they simply pieces of paper that are post-card sized, or of a similar thickness? lots of questions because i'm totally interested

Morgaine 07/15/2010 #

@KikoLala No, you need to put them in an evelope to mail. They are not actually meant to be postcards, just the size of one ;-) The point is that you collect them and put them together as a sort of mini BoS. I have my pages glued into a little decorated journal.

And yes, the pages do need to be of sturdy material, card stock like.

Hope this helps, otherwise you are free to ask again :-)

Should these be oriented vertically or horizontally? I was imagining them horizontally, but I see in the picture they are vertical. This could make a difference for some depending on how they plan on putting them together.

Morgaine 07/17/2010 #

I have both kinds in the book I already started the in, I just glue them in, so it's not a big thing.

I was thinking it should be up to the person making them, but I can change it if you want?

eedwards 07/17/2010 #

Ok that sounds good. I'm excited to get started!

Morgaine 07/18/2010 #

I wrote something about the orientation of the cards in the bottom of the swap just before the NB section. I hope that is to your satisfaction?

Gofeen 07/25/2010 #

I'm definatly newer than new but want to have a go. ;>) Can we use meditations, spells etc we find on the internet or do we have to make up our own?

SylvanaWolfspaw 07/25/2010 #

Just answering for Morgaine here: Oh no, you can use stuff from books, your own or from the internet. When it's from the net, though, make sure it's....How do you say it? Verified? Does that make sense? I mean, use stuff that would work and come from reputable places :) Exciting, Gofeen! Yay!

Morgaine 07/26/2010 #

Yes, like Sylvana said, you can use stuff from the net.

I'm really interested in this swap, and I intend to join, but I am watching it for now, until I finish with the swaps that I've got going at the moment. I've got three that finish at around the same time, and I want to make sure that I am dedicating my attention to them. :)

Do you have any photos of how it can look like? I just started doing Fbs and I thought this would be great too !!! I really wanted to participate, but I'm afraid I won't make something incredible and I don't want to let anyone down!!!!

Morgaine 08/ 1/2010 #

@MorgenSter The swap picture is of some postcard bos pages I recieved from SylvanaWolfspaw. If you want to see close-ups of them your can always look at her Flickr photos.
