Flora/Fauna REDWORK R#1

--1 REDWORK quilt block

--1 partner

--use only one color red on each block

--finished block 6 ½”

--embroidered area approximately 5 ½” leaving a seam allowance

--any Flora and or Fauna theme-senders choice

How about swapping some REDWORK embroidered quilt blocks? That sounds good to me and ohsewaddicted, so let’s do it!

Your base fabric should be white, off white, pale cream or as light a tan as you can find of 100% cotton fabric.

After embroidering the quilt block, cut your base fabric to 6 ½”. Use only one color red per block, picking any flora and/or fauna theme you want to embroider on it. Do your best neat-&-clean work, iron the block, package it nicely and send off to your partners along with a note stating the swap name and your name.

Note: The BLUEWORK quilt block swaps call for smaller blocks than the REDWORK swaps, so be sure to cut these to a full 6 ½ inches after embroidering.

We will have at least 12 of these swaps, and possibly 16 if interest continues.

I will angle this swap but will publicize any flakers.

Questions and concerns are always welcome.

Hi, I joined a blue work swap some time ago and my partner was very happy with what she received, so I'm thinking this might be fun, too. If at all possible I will be joining all 12 (or 16) swaps, then I can join all the squares to make a quilt! I'll start looking for patterns now! I hope to receive some nice pieces...

Is there a specific DMC floss color/number for the red, or any shade of red sender chooses?

perkl8r 10/22/2010 #

not as far as I'm concerned since I'm thinking it might be hard for everyone to have access to all the color options.....I'd say a bright red....maybe staying away from darker brick reds

DMC 606 and/or 666 are good traditional reds for redwork.

Anchor 334 is similar to DMC 606

Fun! Can newbies join? I just finished a swap over at Sew Mama Sew, but have yet to do one here. Sounds like fun!

Newbies are welcome with a filled out profile and a message to me so I can get to know them. Thank you sharonelaine for your question. I'll go check out your profile right now!

Thank you to my buddie twobluecrows for her helpful data on the DMC floss numbers and colors. I so appreciate and need all the help I can get!

Found a pattern! I'll give a hint: "oriental fauna". My little baby boy is being very good, so I'm enjoying some crafty time every day, yay!

Sharonelaine mentioned "sea themed".....wow, so many great ideas kind of put me to shame...gonna have to go dig for a good one!

Thank you for posting the colors @twobluecrows I'll have to look in my stash for those colors. Otherwise I'll be visiting JoAnn Fabrics this week!
