Description:

Faux Postage is a form of mail art. What you will do is make at least 4 faux postage stamps for your swap partner (more if you wish). This will be a low cost swap as stamps don't weigh much. Make your faux postage stamps using either digital, stamping or drawn images. You might wish to use a punch so that your stamps look authentic but there are lots of examples online of faux postage templates and tutorials you might find useful. This should be a quick and easy swap. Your stamps should be realistic postage sizes. I intend to use my hand carved stamps. I've posted some examples on my flickr. Feel free to hit my profile to check them out. Here are some links that might whet your appetite!

If all else fails google faux postage. Have fun!

This is such an awsome idea, i cant wait to get started. I do not have the stamp or template but I have an idea or two and am really going to have fun with this swap. Thanx for making it international.

International is all I do as I am based in the UK. Swap bot has many users in the US and fewer in the UK. Its an added bonus when you get mail from miles away. Well I love it. <3

so excited for this one.. this'll be my first faux postage so I'm already brainstorming on how I'll make them

I have just changed the image for this swap. Hope ithelps to inspire:)

charlottenc 01/ 6/2011 #

Is the finished product supposed to be small, like a real postage stamp, or larger, like an ATC??

MommaEvans 01/ 7/2011 #

Should there be adhesive on the back of them???

hearthandmade 01/ 7/2011 #

Charlottenc and MommaEvans I have sent you private messages. -

Actually, I'd like to read the answer to MommaEvans question. I've come across some adhesive called lick and stick which is supposed to be like that which is found on postage stamps. I could add it to my stamps - once I make them. I'm still thinking about this swap. I don't want to start the new year by over extending my swap list.

Hi starwatcher. I did send a message to Momma Evans saying that the kind of adhesive you have mentioned is ideal, that or self adhesive paper, but if there is no adhesive I am sure the recipient will use their own glue. I think the front of the stamp is the most important. I hope everyone else feels like that too! I hope this answers your question. I have found making these to be very addictive. I am sure you will too -

A gentle reminder to those participants who have not posted yet has been sent out today. Please do contact your swap partner if you do not receive your goods and please let me know too as I will angel. Flakers will be listed on my profile. I am sure there will be no problems but this is what I intend to do in the instance that there are issues.

Happy swapping :)

Another not so gentle reminder sent to four members of the group who have not posted or contacted me. I will name them as late posters in my profile and on this page unless I hear from them. Its all about fairness!

Wow! All swaps are now sent. Having not heard from anyone I assumed the worst. Now where did I put the optimist that livesin me.

Thanks everyone for posting on time. I hope everyone will receive their swaps shortly, but please do not heistate to contact me if you do not.

This swap was incredible. The artwork and possiblities really enthused me. I have a few swaps going on at the moment but I am ready for a private swap if anyone fancies one. Just let me know.

Thanks for making this swap go well. Thanks again for joining in. Your participation makes a swap. Happy swapping :)
