Description:

I discovered this great granny mandala pattern... I just KNEW I had to do a swap with this pattern..I adore granny squares.. and now I can have a granny square in a circle :-) The creator of the pattern is sweet, friendly, and obviously talented.. This will make a great center piece for a table..Here is the link for the pattern:

Granny Mandala Pattern

I've looked at the pattern, and as a novice - it seems pretty clear cut so I think it would rate as an "easy" pattern.. So I think a variety of skill levels could easily complete it.

Now the boring stuff -the rules:

-You must do all 16 rounds.. you can do more - but the minimum is 16 .. a fancy edging is optional

-As with drawn mandalas - you need to have a variety of colors.. at least four.. but if you so desire you can change colors with every round.

-You may use whatever type of yarn you want - acrylic, wool, cotton, whatever.. but make sure it's decent, clean, and something you would want to use in a project for yourself. DO NOT rate your partner down if they use acrylic and you prefer natural fibers.. this is a SENDER'S CHOICE!

-Please do your very best work - this is supposed to be for your partner to display in their homes.

-This is SENDER'S choice so can start the moment you sign up.

-No recent or multiple 1's or 3's.. newbies (with a full profile) will be accepted on a case by case basis.. and I reserve the right to ban anyone who seems "fishy"

I hope everyone enjoys this swap, and if enough people participate - then I will be doing swaps with other patterns this pattern creator has generously shared with the crochet world for free!! I am thinking a bunting.. maybe a potholder.. I highly advise you to check out the patterns she has.. they are beautiful and easy to do.

OMG...I LOVE the site you listed!!

PinkLotus 01/24/2011 #

isn't it awesome!!! talk about some COOL patterns!

NorthernBorder 01/24/2011 #

what a great swap

MrsTinyDuckie 01/24/2011 #

I can't wait to get started on this. Thanks for allowing newbies.

Saulute 01/24/2011 #

Wow! I am usually not a big fan of granny squares, but this is fantastic...Still would prefer natural fiber yarn one...

PinkLotus 01/24/2011 #

i don't mind if you put your preferences, but that isn't a guarantee that is what you will get... this is a sender's choice and up to the sender if they want to tailor the piece to your profile likes..

CajunLady 01/26/2011 #

If there's going to be specifics on the types of yarns we use, then I'll have to drop out. I'm going to be using plain old acrylic because it's what I use and can afford right now.

PinkLotus 01/27/2011 #

Absolutely Acrylic is fine.. whatever type the SENDER wants to use.. this is a sender's choice swap.. Please don't leave cajunlady!! I am going to prob be using acrylic too!

CajunLady 01/27/2011 #

I won't! I would hate to get a lower rating because my partner didn't like the kind of yarn I used.

PinkLotus 01/27/2011 #

well if they did that then I would report it to Rachel b/c the swap clearly states it's a sender's choice.. perhaps I will add a little more emphasis in the description to make sure that's clear :-)

HisTechnoAngel 01/28/2011 #

So, if you use acrylic, it doesn't need to be blocked then?

PinkLotus 01/28/2011 #

I will leave that up to you decide, but you want to present it in the very best fashion.. some might block, some might lay it under books..

Deeno1105 01/29/2011 #

I'm watching this for now. I want to make sure we can use any kind of yarn/fiber we want to. I don't have the money to buy anything fancy or expensive for this swap. I would still crochet something I would like to receive.

Started on mine last night. I am literally half way through it!!! I had some trouble at first because I didn't understand the "dc in the space" part. But I brought up the site and figured it out really quick!!

HeatherD 02/ 3/2011 #

I'm all set to begin my Mandala tonight when my kiddos go to bed. I am really excited for this swap!! The gorgeous possibilities are endless :-D

PinkLotus 02/ 3/2011 #

@cajunlady - I know what you mean.. I had to read thru the pattern to realize by "dc in the space" she didn't actually mean space but the stitch..

CajunLady 02/ 3/2011 #

Mine is finished!!! My hands are sore today!! I'm going to try blocking it today or in the next day or so!!

Deeno1105 02/11/2011 #

I'm all done.....just waiting for a partner to send it to. I really like how it came out. My husband thought it was for us and was a bit disappointed when I told him it was one of my swaps. LOL!

PinkLotus 02/11/2011 #

lol mine never even notices what I make unless i point it out to him :-( Ah well I will be starting shortly.. I made a bag recently that had this mandala pattern (less some rows) as the bottom of the bag.. seemed to flow along pretty well.

Rachclute 02/12/2011 #

I'm in! No idea where I will be using mine, or for what, im new to medallions....

I have neber done blocking before, can someone explain it to me?

HeatherD 02/12/2011 #

Rachclute this is the guide I used when I started to block. Same concept with a circle.

Mine is done and blocked, just waiting on a partner's name. I am SO excited. Hubby requested one for our new house too.

leahsimone 02/12/2011 #

What a lovely idea.

Rachclute 02/15/2011 #

Wonderful, Thank you so much!!! I have been crocheting for about 15 years, but strangely enough have never done this! <3 Thanks again!!!

HeatherD 02/17/2011 #

My package is officially sent!

MrsTinyDuckie 02/23/2011 #

@chickadeebijoux - I would love to see another swap like this or one using patterns for the site you linked.

HeatherD 02/24/2011 #

I second that @MrsTinyDuckie !!

HisTechnoAngel 03/14/2011 #

Question- how is everyone packaging up theirs to send? I'm looking at mine and scratching my head.....

PinkLotus 03/15/2011 #

I folded mine and put it in a bubble envelope.
