Description:

“April showers bring May flowers” is a lesson in patience, and one that remains valid to this day. You wait through the rains for the beautiful flowers, knowing they will come. Here, you wait for your shower of mail to bring you lots of smiles!

For this swap, you will be creating a shower of fun mail for your partner. Think outside the box on this one. You will be sending ten, yes TEN, pieces of mail. All mail can be flat mail; packages are not required, but creativity is.

  • One letter must include a general introduction to you and your life.
  • One must include titles of MUST READ books, and why they are must-reads to you.
  • One must include a gift of some type - remember, it can be flat mail, so a postcard, notecard, teabag, bookmark, small giftcard, any little thing will do, as long as you think your partner will like it. (Obviously you cannot KNOW your partner will like it, just do your best. Ratings are NOT based on whether they like it.)
  • One piece must include a reference to rain... an umbrella sticker, a notecard with a picture of a cloudy day on it, a discussion about your rainy day, whatever you want to do. Remember to point out that this piece fullfills the rain requirement.
  • One piece must include flowers... that is, a picture of flowers, a reference in a poem, flower seeds, anything. Be sure to point out that it fullfills the flower requirement.
  • the other five may be anything at all, as long as they are individual pieces of mail. AND... all must be in SOME way, beyond the normal range of an everyday plain card or envelope. A postcard to which you have added stamped images, or a card in an envelope you have made, or decorated. A letter about your favorite candy bar, in an envelope made from a Hersheys ad. A zine you created, sent naked... a pair of flip flops! You decide.

All ten pieces of mail must be sent by May 31. Sending late can result in a 3 rating, so send on time. You may send any time in April and May, plenty of time to get ten pieces of creative mail out.

This IS international, so be aware, your total postage will be at least $4.40, but could be $10 or more. Your packages themselves, however, do not actually need to cost anything, unless you want them to. :) Remember to confirm that your postage is correct. Also be aware that this swap is not about getting 'stuff' but is about getting 'mail'... you may be sorely disappointed if you are expecting profile goodies!

This swap requires commitment. Please do not join if you are not certain you can complete it.

Hi, I have a question... so the 10 pieces of mail have to be mailed separately? Can they be in one large envelope? Thanks. :D

hollycm6 03/11/2011 #

No, they do have to be mailed separately, the idea being, over the course of a month our partner will get to know us a bit AND have a shower of mail! :)

hollycm6 03/11/2011 #

added: they can be all single stamp items, however... so while it is a commitment, A) you can prepare the things ahead, mailing on separate days and B) postage can be kept to $4.40 or $9.80 total cost for the month, depending on whether you get a swapper in your country, if you do not end up sending anything package-y. I kind of like sending little package-y things so may want to still mix it up a bit, but the swap doesn't require it.

May is my birthday month, so I'm loving this. On the Watchlist until I clear out some swaps.

I am wondering... wouldn't it make sense to send to 10 partners, one piece to each... surely it would be possible a person got more than one piece related to rain or even more than two pieces related to flowers, but it would be from different people... Just an idea. Watching for now. May is my birthday month as well.

hollycm6 03/18/2011 #

That is a good idea, too... but for this swap I was hoping to space out the mail a bit... I suppose that is less like a shower and MORE like a prolonged sprinkle, so the name is sort of questionable!!

I find it more difficult to keep up with multiple partners, too. However, if you'd like to host something similar and set it up that way please DO!! :) I can make you an officer any time, just let me know.

I'd love to join this, but international postage is a bit too much for me right now :(

I mailed off my first piece of mail today! And very appropriately, it's raining. :) This is so exciting, I love these kinds of swaps...
