Description:

The April swap with this theme has received positive feedback, so let's do it again!

I admit it, I'm a bit of a fabric snob. I'd rather have a little of a nice quality fabric than a larger quantity of lesser-quality fabric. With two small children, my sewing time is limited. So, when I have the time to sew, I want it to be something that will look great and last for a long time!

For this swap, we will:

  • Send one 1/2 yard or two Fat Quarters of fabric purchased at a quilt shop. No solid fabrics. If fabric is sold by the meter where you live, a half meter or two fat quarter meters are perfectly acceptable. No one will complain about getting a little extra fabric!

  • an FQ is a fat quarter of fabric. To make an FQ, you cut a yard of fabric in half both vertically and horizontally to make 4 equal rectangles measuring approximately 18 x 22 inches (45.7 x 55.9 centimeters). A fat quarter has the same area as a regular quarter, but they have a different shape. Many quilt shops sell pre-cut FQs for $2.50-$3 US.

  • Quilt shops are the fabric stores that are usually locally-owned shops with good quality fabrics. In the US, a yard of quilt shop fabric is usually in the $8-$10 price range. This is not fabric that you purchase at Jo-ann's, Hobby Lobby, etc.

  • Include a short note in the swap and tell your partner about the quilt shop where you purchased the fabric. :-)

  • Sending on time and packaging swaps carefully are swap requirements.

To help ensure that we choose something that our partners will like, please post some ideas to guide your partner in the swap comments. This could be a color, style, pattern, or even something you would prefer not to receive (such as no novelty prints or no Civil War reproductions). This is not intended to make it very difficult for your partner to shop for you, but rather it is meant to help give them some guidance in making this a stellar swap for you.

Participant requirements:
You must have no unexplained/unresolved 1s/3s (please PM if there are extenuating circumstances). Participants will not have any overdue swaps at the time of partner assignment and must have at least 5 completed/rated Type 3 swaps (crafts/packages).

So, who is up for another Snooty Quilt Shop Fabric Swap? ;-)

Please post some ideas to guide your partner! If you choose not to post preferences by the date of partner assignment (May 28), the swap will be sender's choice. Thanks! :-)

I would love bright colors with dots....any kind of dots, not just polka dots. Please no black, white, or brown. Thanks.

dmarie 05/20/2011 #

circles, swirls, medallions, birds, owls, cheery fresh colors (please no....solids, neon colors, animal prints, Civil War reproductions)

clkea 05/24/2011 #

I love most prints/colors. However, I'm not fond of orange or Civil War reproductions. Thanks!!

bearnbabs 05/25/2011 #

I love 30', reproduction Civil War & Oriental fabrics. My favorite color is blue.

SweetClementine 05/26/2011 #

I like 1930s reproductions, bold modern prints, retro themes, "trendy" novelties (such as owls, birds, gnomes, red & white mushrooms, etc.), and LOVE polka dots. My favorite colors are blues and greens, but I'm pretty open color-wise, so surprise me! I'm not a huge fan of muted colors or Civil War reproduction prints.

I am currently collecting pieces of Moda's "Fandango" line so if my partner can find any of that I would be in heaven. If not I am pretty easy to please so surprise me. :-)

Pretty much what SweetClementine said...

bold modern prints (like Amy Butler's fabrics), retro themes, "trendy" novelties (owls, birds, etc)...I too am pretty open in terms of colors...not a fan of Civil War repro prints

1930's repro, blod modern prints, geometric design, retro. I have some of my likes listed in my profile, i would love some robert kaufman metro living circles, lattice or dots...Also, i know its not snooty, but i would love some of the new line from Denyse schmidt at JoAnns Fabric or if you're in Australia from Spotlight.

Partners have been assigned. Enjoy your fabric shopping and receiving! :-)

Nearly forgot....anything in browns would be awesome, otherwise a surprise is nice too. Please, just not batiks or kids prints.

I really love Moda fabrics, especially ones designed by Sandy Gervaise and Deb Strain. I like the Sweet Pickings by Darlene Zimmerman for Robert Kauffman.

That being said, I also like 1930s reproductions, bold modern prints, retro themes, "trendy" novelties (such as owls, birds, gnomes, red & white mushrooms, etc.), and LOVE polka dots. My favorite colors are blues and greens, pinks and oranges, but I'm pretty open color-wise, so surprise me! I also really like the WW2 liberty prints. I'm not a huge fan of muted colors or Civil War reproduction prints or batiks.

(I love SweetClementine's description so much - since we have almost identical taste in fabric, I borrowed her wording! Thanks SC! [muah!]
