Description:

This is the 2nd round of a variation on a swap previously hosted by the amazingly creative @Tanglecrafts

Based on the book "Good Mail Day", we will put together portable packs of mail art essentials so that our partners will be prepared whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. I would like a little of everything in my own mail art kit! But since everyone expresses it differently, I thought it would be interesting to see what others consider the essentials of mail art.

We will send each of our partners the following:

  1. A container for their kit: this could be a rigid envelope, large matchbox, or zippered pouch Γ’β‚¬β€œ maybe even a re-purposed pencil case, make-up bag or vintage lunch tin. It can be handmade, sewn or purchased. The important requirement is that it is portable, so it should be no bigger than A5 (half-letter size), and be durable enough not to fall apart after being filled with supplies and used!

  2. THREE items from the list below that you consider essential to successful mail art:

    • a black, blue or red, permanent, smudge-proof, fine tip pen
    • double-sided tape or adhesive (not a glue stick)
    • small or mini scissors
    • a mini-stapler
    • blank labels, plain or handmade (10)
    • used stamps, artistamps or faux postage (10)
    • 4 blank postcards
    • a small address book
    • set of personalized address labels (20)
    • 2 handmade altered/decorated postcards
    • 3 handmade envies, mailable sizes
    • airmail stickers (10)
    • envelope seals, handmade okay (10)
  3. And 2 items from this list that you think would help your partner create great mail art:

    • a colored sharpie pen (mini would be best)
    • a rubber stamp with your partner's 1st initial
    • 5 un-used postage stamps if partner is within the same country
    • a mail-related rubber stamp - hand-carved or bought (like a blank postage stamp or curvy canceled postage lines, for example)
    • postage stamp-edged scissors
    • an office date stamp, "do not bend" stamp or "fragile" stamp
    • small ink pad (any color)
    • rolling adhesive or envelope glue or a small glue stick
    • wax seals or sealing wax
    • 2 fold-n-seals

Please make sure that all of the items fit simultaneously inside the container you have chosen. Try to send a good combination of the items listed; think of what you'd love to receive!

2 partners = 2 kits sent & 2 kits received

I'm giving plenty of time to sign up (for those of you who missed the last round) and ample time to send! If I've missed any mail art necessities, please comment below & I'll consider adding them to the lists. Usual group guidelines apply. Group members must be in good standing (minimum 4.9 rating), with no 1Ò€ℒs, 3Ò€ℒs or no-sends in the last 2 months. PM me with any questions

I'm so excited for this!!! I bought some pencil cases today for the container.

For point number.3 :

"a colored sharpie pen (mini would be best)"

We don't have sharpie brand pens in my country but we do have pens that are just as good, would that be okay? or does it have to be sharpie?

How about small letter stencils would they be good for the list?

iLoveMail 08/10/2011 #

If you cannot get "Sharpie" pens in your country, a comparable permanent marker would be fine.

What do you mean by small letter stencils?

OverMoon 08/10/2011 #

Like the yellow ones shown in the picture.

Great!

I've extended the sign-up deadline by 2 days since I didn't respond to @OverMoon in time :)

Next time I'll add "and anything shown in the picture" !!

Just a reminder that this is a 2 partner swap!

So embarrassing ... had these ready to go, in their containers, since the first day I have just not been able to get to the Post Office. I am heading out to the PO now so I don't miss the deadline.
