INTERNATIONAL

This is for those of us who are just starting out with bookmaking, but are a little intimidated or unsure with what they're doing. Experienced bookmakers welcome too!

It's up to you what kind of book binding you do - it can be an artist's book, notebook, tell a story, whatever. These will be small! (let's say smaller than A5, or approximately 6x8 inches)

Tailor it to your partner's profile if you wish, but this is really a swap to get our feet wet in the world of bookmaking so it's not a requirement... although you should obviously take their dislikes into account.

Stab binding, perfect bound, accordion, sewn - doesn't matter, as long as you make it.

You must have taken part in at least 3 postage swaps to join (i.e. email swaps won't count in this case), and no recent no sends.

I will be using my own judgment to ban any questionable swappers closer to the time. If you have any concerns in the meantime, please let me know by PM.

This swap was inspired by YooperHill's Hand Made Mini Notebooks and I have checked with her about starting this separate swap. Edited to add - this can be blank, altered, decorated, whatever you want. Check your partner's profiles to see if there's anything they prefer, and if in doubt - ask them!

What is A5 in inches.

Zia 12/10/2007 #

A5 paper is an International / European paper size established by the ISO, the International Standards Organization. It measures 148 x 210 millimeters, equivalent to 5.83 x 8.27 inches.

Thanks for that! I'll change it up top

I'm so excited! I love Book Arts. In fact I'm at the University of Alabama where they actually have an MFA program in it. I've often considered applying to it, but I'll give this swap a try first.

Is there a minimum of pages?

alexandrakk 01/ 5/2008 #

helloooo, i'm super interested in this swap, i just started bookbinding myself and have only made a few christmas gifts so far but am eager to do more. i did a google search for a craft swap like this and here i am! unfortunately i just signed up today for the account and dont have any previous swaps!! anyone willing to take me on?

Nope, no minimum - just whatever works! Obviously if you made, for example, an accordion book, it's better to have 10 pages than say, 4. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with... love that handmade book you sent me, it's beautiful :)

I've got a fair bit of bookmaking experience, but would love to participate! I want to encourage the newcomers.

And grassbeneathmyfeet: I'm so jealous! I took a semester of book arts at Georgia State, and would LOVE to do the MFA at UA. :) But I want to have kids more!

should this be a blank book or just decorated pages, or fully decked out, pages complete with clippings, stampings and what not?

teresa 01/17/2008 #

snpyrunner: I'll add it in up the top
