Hi all! I am a 28 year old geologist who loves to make things in her spare time. I spend a large part of my summers exploring for diamonds in the Canadian Arctic. The rest of the year I spend on the West coast of Canada living with my boyfriend and my chubby tabby cat. I have a 1-bedroom apartment that is far too small for all the crafting supplies I keep in it!
I have joined swap-bot in hopes of meeting like-minded folks. I want to meet people interested in crafting and sharing their creations. I want to make things for people who will truly appreciate them. My crafting primarily includes sewing, knitting, and crochet. I love to read, and I love plants. I love beautiful photography, though I'm not much of a photographer myself. I love art, though am not much of an artist. I love anything that's a deep red colour, and alternative designs, somewhat on the punk (including polka dots, stripes, plaid) or retro (20's or 50's style especially) side, but I keep a very open mind.
I mostly read fiction novels. I love anything out of the ordinary. Mostly, I read fantasy, science fiction or historical fiction, but that's not exclusive. I love learning about the past through enthralling stories. Some of my favourite books are: John Barnes - One for the Morning Glory; Manda Scott - Boudica Series; Ken Follett - The Pillars of the Earth; and many, many more. I don't read as much as I would like, but I devour just about anything that comes across my path
I am really into clothing arts such as sewing, knitting and crochet (in that order), and love supplies for these. I especially love yarn made of cotton or other natural fibers. I used to love wool, but I seem to be developing an allergy to it. I still love plant fibers (bamboo, etc), and I love silk. I can take up to 50% animal fibers like wool, alpaca, or mohair, blended with plant fibers or synthetic.
My favourite colours are rich jewel-tones (especially reds, pinks and purples, but also turquoise, emerald green, sapphire blue, rich browns). Natural and upcycled craft supplies are always a treat - beads, buttons, yarns, fabrics and sewing notions. I love books of just about any kind, be they novels, instructive, or mostly imagery. I love photography, though I have much to learn.
Some of my favourite imagery includes orchids, cellos, pants (yes, pants), minerals, fish, nature, japanese media, jolly rogers, video games (especially retro games).
Wishlist: I figure I'll throw in a small one!
*fibers for spinning yarn (I just learned how, and it's addictive!) *top whorl drop spindle *bias tape *cute buttons (especially any made from natural materials) *anything to help organize my craft supplies... *gluten-free baking recipes (I eat flour, I just especially like gluten-free cookies)
This list is just a guideline. Just because something isn't in my list of likes (or is in my dislikes), doesn't mean I won't appreciate the beauty in a wonderfully handcrafted item.
General dislikes include: hip hop (music and style), synthetic fabrics or yarns (I can over look the fiber if it's REALLY nice), cartoon imagery (other than japanese animation), anything related to Twilight, chai tea (or anything chai flavoured), pastels, ruffles. Please do not send items with religious or political tones. I appreciate that we all have our personal beliefs, but I think that there are more important aspects of our personalities to share.
Knitting, sewing, crochet, mostly clothing for myself. I have tried a little jewelry making. I also like to cook, but am no gourmet. I'll try just about anything once, but I'm not really into paper craft (though quilling is kind of cool). I would kill for a laser cutter - the things you could do with it!
Like most of us, I ALWAYS send my swaps - if, for some reason, I can't send you a package on time, I will message you to let you know. Sometimes I send swaps from very remote communities, so they will take a while to ship. If you haven't received a swap on time, send me a message - I'll let you know if I think it should take longer, or I will re-send if necessary.
Also, because I'm away from home so often, I sometimes won't receive swaps until I get back home several weeks later. If I'm late rating, it's probably because I just can't check what has arrived while I'm gone. Message me if this is an issue - I can always get my boyfriend to open packages for me, but it's less fun that way!
