About Me

I am a stay at home mother of four, two girls and two boys. So our home is loud, busy, and usually a bit messy as I almost always involved in somesort of craft project that I find more interesting and worth while than laundry and dishes! Thankfully my husband doesn't mind!

To me crafting is something you do out of love. I know I put a great deal of thought, love, and passion in to my projects. I can not wait to send out boxes of love!

Favorite Crafts

I am a quilter! I love everything about it! Mostly though I love that it is 100% you.....I do not follow the rules. I make it up as I go along. I usually go to the store and shop for fabrics and then design a quilt around what I picked rather than going with a pre-planned design. It makes for a lot of excess fabric but who is that a problem for? :) Three of my four children are visually impaired so I tend to linger on bright prints, things that they can sometimes see on a good day. What to the rest of the world looks dayglo orange, to my daughter is beautiful pale yellow! So I sometimes end up with quilts that are a bit rediculous but filled with love and something they will cherish.
Along with being blind one of my sons has many other medical problems that often take us to the hospital for extended stays. I wanted something that I could take along with me that didnt require and iron and sewing machine.....So I recently took up knitting! It's wonderful....It is so much easier to relax your mind and emotions when your hands are busy. So now I've had quite a lot of fun shopping for new needles and yarns!

Favorite Books

I'm apparently 12 because I am in love with the Harry Potter books! My friend and I are great big nerds who read the books and have themed movie watching nights where we make Hogwarts appropriate food and butter beer and watch! Yes it's lame, but it's also awesome and we love it! I'm also currently reading the Girl with the dragon tattoo and the hunger games. Couldn't decide which I wanted to read first so I'm reading them at the same time. I also really enjoy Dean Koontz work. And I LOVE Edward Gorey.....he's an artist, google him if you don't know who he is, but I would love to find a book of his works. Since there are also chidren in this house who are supposed to read or be read to everynight I am currently working my way through the collected works of Judy Blume.

I like to read.

Favorite Movies

We are a movie family and I tend to like almost everything. But my absolute favorite is Goodfellas and the Band of Brothers series.

Things that'll make me swoon..

I am generally happy with everything, however, I would love.....

Knitting needles.....any type and size.

Yarn....any kind any color......I'm currently working on the beekeepers quilt that call for about a thousand hexipuffs of random colors.

Bits and Bobs for quilting.....new needles, thread( I'm currently in love with colored quilting thread), buttons, rick rack lace and ribbon, hoops of all sizes, fabric scraps.

Beads...I love to add them into blankets for extra texture for my littles. I recently made a "space quilt" for my son James that is a map of our solar system....I used tiny white beads to label the planets with braille characters. Took forever but he loves it!

I love the art of Edward Gorey and anything illustrated by him would be sooooo awesome!

My life when I'm not at home..

I am a firm believer that the best mommies have something to divert their attention every once in a while becuase a rested and refreshed mommy is a happy, healty, and more loving mommy.
My main diversion from laundry, cooking, wiping noses, and of course crafting is Roller Derby. I am a member of the Lilac City Roller Girls....my name is Martha McFly....#1.21! If you don't know why thats funny I suggest you host yourself a 80s movie night cause how can you live without Back to the Future?! While it's not the most "relaxing" or "restful" hobby; it is incredibaly good exercise.....you burn 1500 calories an hour!! and you wouldn't think it but my derby sisters are the most genuine, caring, compassionate, and loyal group of ladies I've ever had the privilege to call my friends.
And there's something awesome about going to the rink and getting knocked around. It's also pretty funny when you tell someone you're in derby and watching the "wait what??" look come across their face.
So I am all about making crazy patches and jewelry and such to dress up my derby gear and give my sisters.

I would love to receive an inchie and an ATC just to see what they are all about!
