I´m an on-again off-again student, artist, traveler, and general ruffian living in Seattle. I am happily androgynous and poly, but not very vehement about either. I have difficulty remembering what box I was supposed to be thinking in, and as a result I´m very easygoing. I like to weld, drive a horse-drawn carriage, disassemble things, fix things, talk long into the night with friends, get drunk, and run around at night. I go to Burning Man every year, but I don´t hang out with a big crowd of Burning Man scenesters. This is because hipsters ruin everything.
I have an Etsy store as "anyothername" where I put clothing I´ve made. I love custom orders and challenges that demand new skills from me. My favorite thing is learning something new every day, and I´m looking forward to doing swaps that push my boundaries and help me learn about other people and worlds!
Here´s what I do:
My favorite projects combine many of these things at once. I like to try lots of ideas in my head before starting so that when I start making, I have a clear idea of where I´m going with it.
I love science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism. Books I have enjoyed include everything by Tolkien, Dune, All Things Wise and Small, Tale of Murasaki (and Geisha), Irish folk tales, most Pratchett books, the Well of Lost Plots (by Jasper Fforde).
My favorite music is generally electronic. I like listening to new house and trance sets all the time, and I go dancing every few weeks to local DJs. If you know about that sort of thing, my favorite subgenre is tech house. I go to Burning Man every year. Non-electronic music I enjoy include Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, tango music, and live orchestral music. I play flute and accordion, and I enjoy accordion more.
I don´t often go to the movies, but I have certain movies that I love. Inexplicably, the movie I watch most often is Legally Blonde. I also adore The Princess Bride, Hackers, Fantasia (the old one), The Russian Arc, Dark Knight, Chronicles of Riddick, and the latest Star Trek movie.
If you´re still at a loss as to what to send if you´ve gotten me as a swap partner, the following lists may be helpful.
I like:
Green, blue, and purple.
Butterflies, beetles, praying mantids, scarabs, dung beetles, moths, bumblebees.
Cats, dogs, bats, rodents, pet rocks, horses, tortoises, raptors and owls, manatees, octopi and cuttlefish and squid, whales, snails and slugs, caterpillars, sugar gliders, sparrows and tits, and bunnies.
Dark chocolate (but not milk), fresh fruits, seeds to try and grow plants from, dried fruit, granola, moss, pressed flowers, jerky, new recipes to try.
Materials and kits to try new things, stuff that provokes thought, stuff that introduces me to new ideas, stuff I don´t understand (for instance, if you include an obscure bible verse, I´ll pick at it for ages trying to work it out).
Clean, modern motifs, old ornate stuff, vintage ephemera, repainted or otherwise refurbished antiques, shabby chic, primitive, steampunk, cyberpunk, shiny things, dingy dirty things.
Tools.
Things I may not like, or categories that are more difficult to please me in:
Things with glitter (it gets everywhere)
Sort of feminine things (but I do like extremely ridiculously feminine things for fun, so if in doubt, add rhinestones)
Candy (I much prefer dried fruit or jerky or other tasty, natural snacks)
If it makes me laugh, it's a good thing, even if it's something I normally wouldn't care for.
supplies for any of the crafts above, especially...
handy things, especially...
pretty things, especially...
I am happy to take used/thrifted/dumpstered/whatevered items! If you bought that weird shade of green paint and decided you hated it halfway through the bottle and now you want to throw it out, send it right along to me!
mildly combustible
odd sense of humor
spelling and grammar autocrat (not quite a nazi, but I will gently help you with every error I notice)
a bit overboard on the extras
difficulty focusing
poor impulse control
misunderstands directions for great humorous results
weird love
